Okay, not sure why this is happening, but I'm getting a PL alert on a vehicle with a damage 9 attack that says it is breaking PL 10 caps. And It's on a character who isn't constrained by PL.

I can't really post the character here, because it's for an upcoming supplement, but I wanted to let you guys know what's going on. If you need more info, let me know how I can help explain the bug in better detail for you. :)

Far's I know, Vehicles shouldn't (by default) be registering as PL restricted anyway.
 
The power level flag pops up as soon as I add "Area Effect: Burst Area" to a torpedo power on a submarine.

Without the Area Effect, it causes no problems.

The damage is 9, and the program reports that I'm violating a PL of 10, even though the character who owns the sub doesn't have PL restrictions.
 
I just tested it and it didn't pop up a warning. Even tried upping it to ranged burst damage 15 and it still didn't give a warning. Double check your settings for the character and make sure you have the ignore PL limits box checked.
 
I tested it with all permutations i could come up with and still couldn't get the error to pop up. Perhaps someone else will have a different outcome, or you could build a similar character with a similar vehicle to what you want and upload that .por file.
 
Okay, first off, here's the exact error message:

Torpedo: Burst Area Damage 9: Over PL limits: maximum rank 10, maximum cost 20 PP

Now, here's the power build of the torpedo:

Torpedo: Burst Area Damage 9 (DC 24; Burst Area 2 (60 feet radius sphere), Homing (1 extra attempt), Increased Range (ranged))


The cost of the power is 37, but I'm trying to figure out why the program thinks there's a limit on point costs for the vehicle. Before, I didn't realize it was the point cost that was raising the flag, so hopefully this helps you folks track down what's going on...?

Now I'm having an issue where vehicles never report their PL limit errors. Other PL limit errors report properly, but vehicles don't give me anything.

In the base game, Vehicles don't have PL limits, so they shouldn't report anything.

Which is why I'm totally flummoxed by this error popping up.
 
Resurrecting this thread - I was trying to fix this error, but I couldn't reproduce the problem (like Deadman was experiencing, I'm not getting any PL errors for the Submarine at all). Shadowchaser, can you email me the saved portfolio to colen@wolflair.com? If you can get it to me sometime tomorrow I can hopefully fix this for the 1.0 update.

I deleted the submarine because I couldn't build it properly. I'll try and recreate it tonight and email it to you... but keep in mind, it's NDA stuff, meant for publication by Vigilance Press.

Nevermind... I can't seem to replicate the error now. I deleted and rebuilt the sub several times, getting the error every time before. Now, no error. I don't get it.

Weird. Ah well, let me know if it pops up again, like you said. You can always send me a cut-down version without any of the "real" names / content that demonstrates the problem, if it's for something upcoming.
 
AH-HA!!

Now I found it again! The problem kicks in when I build the submarine as a Headquarters!

I had forgotten that I was building it as an HQ and not a vehicle. It still shouldn't give me PL restrictions on a character who isn't limited by PL! The PL of the base should be based on the effective PL of the character, and it's well below that.

EDIT- Okay, it seems to be based on the Toughness of the HQ. When I raise the Toughness of the HQ, the 'maxium points' allowed for the Blast power and the max damage goes up.

DCA page 160: "A headquarters can be given any appropriate power effect as a feature with the Gamemaster’s approval. The effect cannot have a total cost greater than twice the HQ power level and cannot exceed the power level limits."

So it sounds like what you have is an error that's valid when PL limits are used, but shouldn't be reported if the limits are turned off. You're just in time, I'll get it into the release. :)

Cool. I'm just glad it wasn't a case of me being crazy. :)

The past 5 weeks have been (no exaggeration) pretty much the hardest time of my life. So it wouldn't have been a stretch for me to have done something stupid. :)
