L5R and hero lab?

Is there any thought to Hero Lab being able to create L5R 3rd ed d 10 system rules characters?

AEG has given us a verbal OK at this point, but we haven't nailed down any of the details yet. We'll likely be doing that at the big tradeshow in April, where we'll hopefully be able to sit down with AEG and work those details through.

That's great. Would there be any chance that 7th Sea being added on as well?
7th Sea is very UNlikely for us to do on a licensed basis. As the game is no longer being actively developed by AEG, it's not something that they would want us to invest a lot of time and effort into.

Games like 7th Sea are exactly what the release of the Authoring Kit will be targeting. A few players who are technically minded and love 7th Sea will likely take it upon themselves to create data files for that game using the Authoring Kit. Once they create the data files, then they can share them with other users via the integrated Updates mechanism within HL. Lots of OOP games will likely have data files developed via the Kit. This is what happened for our Army Builder and Card Vault products when we released their respective Authoring Kits, and we expect to recur for HL.

has there been any word on L5R?
We received a verbal thumbs up from AEG awhile back, but nothing more definitive has been resolved regarding L5R yet. We expect to be talking with AEG in more detail about L5R over the summer.

By any chance at Origins, did AEG have the people there that could help get this project under way? Will the Data editor allow the adding of the system until it can be offially released?

AEG was not present at Origins this year, so we did not have the chance to discuss anything further with them. Once we release the Authoring Kit, you can definitely create data files for L5R yourself - or virtually any other game you might want.

Just hoping that maybe a word as to AEG allowing HL work with the L5R system yet?
Just over a year ago, AEG gave us the green light verbally and then we needed to work out all of the legal details. Shortly thereafter, AEG had a layoff. Since then, an HL/L5R license has not received the time and attention necessary to get it all sorted out. We haven't followed up with AEG recently, as we've been focused on all the stuff that is already on our plate. With a little luck, perhaps we'll be able to actually get something nailed down once the Authoring Kit is wrapped up. Keep those fingers crossed....

I wish AEG would step up and let you guys do this system as well! I love HL abilities and the combat tracker would be very nice in the L5R system

Yeah, I've read the L5R rulebook, and it seems to me that there are a lot of conditional modifiers that come into play. The ability to track them on the In-Play tab would be very handy.

Tracking Init alone in the game is a small job, it can vary from turn to turn but having a easy system to track and create characters would be wonderful. Then being able to include art work for the characters and allow maybe clan style character sheets would make me well nearly cry if I had emotions :)
I think that we need to get L5R players to start writing letters to AEG to help move this to the top of thier list and make this a done deal, not that the Wolves need more work but Muhhaaaa more meat for the wolves to eat!

Hey has anyone started L5R with the authoring kit? I have but with time and my not really understanding of this programing stuff (mostly beyound my tech abilities) so I have only made the attributes, but can not figure how to make the rings work, in the game basic stuff ie grunt work such as adding equipment ect I should be good at.
So if anyone would like to start or work as a team I am in for what I can do.
If it helps I have made an excel sheet that does a lot of the look up stuff but that s it.

thanks all

I would like to get started on this but like SAbel I don't know how. I'll have to learn XML, I think the data files are written in XML. Thinking of writing our own data files has me thinking, does authoring kit allow us to modify the dice roller that is built into hero labs to suit the game we are working on like L5R?

You can tailor the default behavior for the dice roller within the data files. You can see this distinction made between the World of Darkness files and other game systems. I believe WoD uses the same "roll and keep" technique that L5R uses.
