Pathfinder: Shield Bonus Missing?

Pooptickler

Well-known member
I'm making a Bolt Ace with a gastraphetes for a friend's campaign because I'm a dick. But after I updated Hero Lab last week, I noticed that when I equip my crossbow, I lose my shield bonus. What's going on, and how do I get it back? Is this a bug?

Not a bug. Operating a crossbow requires two hands (Core Rulebook p145) - thus no shield bonus. You can use a crossbow while having a buckler equipped (p150) but you lose the AC bonus. I don't see anything in the Archetype description of Bolt Ace that changes this. You could likely use an adjustment if you home rule that you don't lose the AC bonus.
(You probably should have posted this enquiry in the Pathfinder Forum)

I just talked to my friend, and he's cool with me keeping my bonus. I tried putting in the adjustment for a shield bonus, but it's not changing anything on the armour loadout. Is there an option in the character settings to ignore this?

I think the best option is to use a AC adjustment like "Armour Class Bonus" set to the same as your shield that you can turn off when you equip the crossbow.
NOTE: I just went to test this and made a low level fighter with armour, heavy shield and heavy crossbow. After equipping the armour and shield, I equipped the crossbow with one hand - and didn't lose the shield AC bonus. Equipping with both hands only gave me a red warning - "Can't have an off-hand weapon with shield" but I still have the AC bonus.
So, maybe you do have a bug. You can contact Lone Wolf PF support through:
http://www.wolflair.com/support/report-pathfinder-bug/?project=pathfinder
Explain what's happened and maybe include a copy of your portfolio with that character. They won't always notice what's in an individual forum post.

No, sorry. I am using a +1 buckler. I just don't like seeing the +2 turn into +0.
