Can you copy Hero Lab Portfolio Snippets?

As the title suggests. Is there a way to create copies of the Hero Labs Snippets?

I would love to create an Orc. And then copy it, make some minor adjustments and create and Orc in plate. And then copy it, make some minor adjustments and create an Orc wizard.

I've found a way to copy it to a different article, but can you create duplicates within the same article?

I think most people would approach this differently.

For example, the way I would approach it is to create all of the variations in one HeroLab portfolio. If these are going to be your "mook" type enemies, I would not both putting their individual portfolios into RealmWorks.. I would, instead, concentrate on populating them in Encounter-level portfolios on the Scene Topics where they would be needed.

If you have them stored outside RealmWorks in a HeroLab portfolio file, it is easy to go to the empty HeroLab snippet in a Topic (of any type) and import a copy from the external portfolio.

I create separate hero lab portfolios in a folder for each mob or NPC. I only want to create them once. Then as encounters need to be built, I import copies of them for the situation.

I import a copy of each into RW and if they underline I know I can quickly build an encounter and I can also pull each one for quick reference.

I used to use folders on my PC.

Now i create them from directly within Realm Works. I have a monster listing for each monster and that is linked to a single monster. I would then have variations of that monster listed below each with a picture of the monster. I liked this layout but I think Silveras is on the money. One portfolio, you can copy from within the portfolio to add variations and loading into Hero Labs can be done with less clicks.

I started by creating all the monsters, without any detail in them. This ensures all monsters link when i am creating content. Now when I prep, i check each monster in the encounter, if it's empty, i fill it in. Over-time prep time is decreasing significantly.

Since I started using HL, I no longer create monster topics in RW unless they are home brew. HL has most of the monsters do there is no data entry for crunch and for flavor, that is usually fresh in my mind during the game from my game prep. It would be nice to have the cross-links in RW for monsters and I hope I can buy the Monster Manual and other creature compendiums like Kobold Press's Tome of Beasts. I would like to be able to just buy them from the content market and add them to my world and would readily pay to be able to do so. But, for now, the data-entry effort far outweighs any inconvenience of having to crack open a book.

Beside, I quite like flipping through the monster manual.

I have monster articles for stuff like realm specific information and for snippets that can be revealed when the party makes knowledge checks or otherwise learns something about a monster.

I build all my encounters in HL and then import them to RW.

Yup.. this is especially useful for long-term players who know the weaknesses of monsters and are scrupulous about not using PLAYER knowledge for CHARACTER actions.

I won't bother entering all monsters, but as the group encounters them in a campaign, I might add them so I can make available to them what they know.

That's the kind of players for whom we invented the red-haired orcs. Throw the standard fireball at them and they are healed.

I change almost all monsters a little bit so my players are totally surprised if there comes an enemy straight out of the monster manual.

I haven't entered every bestiary monster but every creature that occurs in an encounter or as an NPC has an entry. Since I intend for this to be the last fantasy campaign world I ever build I hope the work will be useful for quite some time to come.

I was even thinking that the snippets as knowledge check results might be something useful to the wider community once we can share stuff.
