Creating a Race: Genasi

Well-known member
I was looking to create a race (Genasi - from Princes of the Apocalypse.) While tooling around in the editor, I was looking for some of the standard races (elves, for example - I just wanted to see how those were set up, etc.)

But, I couldn't find them in the PHB data file. I couldn't find any of the PHB races in the PHB data files.

What am I doing wrong?

Only the subraces missing from the SRD are in this file.
You will need to use the new (copy) button on the race tab to copy the SRD race, there you choose rElf, this is the race for the playable elf. Then edit the copy.
I suggest you do the tutorials first, because all is explained in them. Go to the editor then in the menu Help-> Help on using the editor.
Tutorial 2 is to create race and subrace.

There is no file for the SRD, it is encrypted somewhere. Create a new blank file and do the copy there.

Well, now I'm confused. How do I find the races that are in the SRD? I mean, I have started creating my own PotA data set. But, if I wanted to copy a race from the SRD, where do I look? How do I copy one if I can't find them?

To be more precise, you can copy nearly everything from the SRD, but you cannot open files directly.

I would recommend reading the Glossary of Terms for the Editor. Then check out FAQ#2 for all the places to learn about the editor including YouTube videos.

Just going to leave the above as usual. It has lots of good information on learning the editor. :)
