Entering Character Loans in Hero Labs

Anyone have any thoughts for how I can enter loans between characters in Hero Labs? For the character lending the money it's relatively easy by creating a custom valuable. However, HL does not allow you to enter negative values so it's not as easy to create the loan for the borrower. Any thoughts?

I should add that I can note it in the journal but I'd like the loan to show up somewhere on the character to reduce the total value of all his/her gear.

What I do for exchanging money between characters:

I've created Gold Piece, Silver Piece, Copper Piece, and Platinum Piece items under Gear in the Editor, with the appropriate weight and value. I "buy" them using the character's wealth, then I can transfer them as needed from character to character.

Or, since my players are a bit paranoid, I can stash some in a secret pocket, leave some in a belt pouch, put some in a bank, and so on.

You could go into the Editor and create a "Loan" type of gear. That will tie up the money for the lender, and it probably should still count against his Wealth because he is due to get the money back... he just can't liquidate it until that happens.

You can add negative gp values in the journal -- to simulate money spent on things not covered by HL directly.

For tracking purposes, I create a custom item on each person's character sheet. I assign it no value whatsoever, no weight, etc. It is just a note.

Borrowed 800gp from whoever.
Owe 800gp to whoever.

One for each of them.

The actual money is transferred on the journal.
+800 and -800, both in the gold piece field, for the respective characters.

It is up to the players to remember the debt or be good on it.
But it appears on the character sheets.
And the money is transferred manually.

You could create a custom item, called Gold Pieces (or whatever).
Have one character buy it, for the actual cost.
And then give it to the other character, via Choose which bag this is in > Give to Hero...
And then have that hero sell it, for 100% of the gold piece value.

I like Silveras idea of creating a "Loan" item. If you combine that with setting a custom price for it, it becomes pretty easy to track loans. Then use ShadowChemosh's mods to give a name to the Loan item.

Not sure how it works if a hero purchases two Loans, though. HL normally tries to group items together ... would it still do that? I don't know. Try it and let us know. ;)

The default stacking is set for each item, so when creating the "Loan" item, just set that to "Add New Item".

I like this.
