Hero Lab on Android

Version 1.1 now live!

This is a major update and addresses many bugs and brings many enhancements:

*All devices now have a portrait mode (including phones)
*Characters load asynchronously, they load faster and you have a progress dialog rather than a long pause.
*Lite users can choose between popups and the banner advert - so that they get the best use of screen space for their device
*Side menu swipes in and out with characters, top tabs are now for navigating the sheet
 
Herolab/Android Possible work around?

Hi,

Has anyone tried using an IOS emulator to run the mac version on android?
If so what success have you have and which emulator have you used?

I actually, through a series of random events, have four Android tablets - enough for my players, given that two of them also have Android tablets. One of my players has an iPad, so out of 7 people, at least Lone Wolf is selling a license to 1 I guess.

Dysfunctional: Do you have a paid version or PayPal tip jar I could through a few bucks at as a thank you?

Hi velinion and thanks for the kind words, there is a paid for version (Hero Lab Character Sheet), I don't have a donation page or anything like that, recommending the app even if it's the lite version which is free, would be all I'd really ask for.

i already mentioned on the FB page but will drop my voice here, i am a person that uses HL and would love to see on Android some day. I know you guys are busy, but wanted to be one more person to request it. Thanks for your time.
 
MAybe make it a Kickstarter project to raise the funds for an Android version? If that wasn't already suggested earlier ;)
 
Bringing this back up.

Even with the options for viewing characters on android now the full app that ipad has is still something that people want including me.
 
Personally I Have never understood the fandom on apple devices, but to each their own. My question is, as customer who has purchased the Base program w/pathfinder + the advanced character class addon, not to mention the future products I will probably be buying, is there any code I an enter to get rid of ads on the android viewer without paying another $1.10? I know $1.10 Is a small amount, but its seems a bit annoying after spending $40 already. I would happily pay more for a full functional version of the product for android.

Hero Lab was produced by LWD.
The Android app was produced by Philderbeast, not by LWD.

What purchases you made for Hero Lab, that money has gone to LWD, not Philderbeast.
 
Since PFS OP now requires physical (read: print) character sheets, will this become a lower priority? Similarly, will the iPad app continue to receive support, or should we expect it to also be deprioritized?

It might behoove you to contact your people at Paizo to see if a compromise can be arranged, given the emphasis you've been putting on mobile development and the fact that it presently only works for the game system whose organized play just removed its major appeal. But YMMV.

I really doubt that 'ruling' is going to be enforced at many tables. I know plenty of GMs who prefer Hero Lab to paper sheets - because 'maths'...

That - and its only PFS - it's not like it's real role-playing anyway... ;-)

Just one more reason why not to join PFS.

Sorry anyone in the year 2014 telling me I need "paper" needs actual mental help. I have not done anything with "paper" in many many years. Even Audit reports for PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) does not need to be on paper. My department alone produces hundreds of audit required documents a day as I am under SOX (Sarbanes–Oxley Act) and PCI. None of them needs to be on paper.

I don't see the issue. I would print my sheet(s) out and if he asks for them you give them. There isn't anything preventing you from using HL at game play to lookup info, track #'s, etc. Same for PDF's.

The frustrating thing, that was not brought up in the thread before they had a hissy fit and locked it down, is that the stated REASON you have to own the sources you use, is so you can provide those sources to the GM, which can be done on an electronic device, while at the same time, the REASON you have to have a paper copy of your character sheet is so you don't have to let the GM use your electronic device...

Ya, that is some fuzzy logic. It sounded like someone pushed the issue to force a ruling and so they went that way. Most people say almost all of the GM's never ask for that sources or the characters most of the time anyway so I doubt it will be an issue most of the time unless you get a hard headed GM and which case, you'll probably have other issues. People could also refuse to cooperate to make a point as well and leave the table. If enough people stopped playing because of it, their voice will be heard.

What's official and what's reality probably won't align here.

Bad rulings like that are why I quit playing PFS.

The other is that they do not support their own SRD for PFS use... seriously wtf?

Paizo should have long ago moved everything Pathfinder and PFS to online fillable sheets specifically the stupid chronicles sheets. Those damn things should be filled out on the paizo web site at the end of the game by the DM which would assign the sheet to the players account. No risk of loss, modifying etc. anyone can check them at any time via any internet device.

That, unfortunately, is something they actively fight, because, unlike most users of this forum, 'pen & paper' gamers as a community, are still against digital and online tools/forms. I think it stems mostly from the success of MMO's, and they feel that they took something from them, but I have heard over and over again about those who 'refuse to let anything digital at their table', the they are 'playing a pen and paper rpg', etc. It's a generational thing, and will go away, but I think Paizo felt they'd alienate the most fervent of their user base if they FORCED something to go online.

They don't make any money off the SRD. PFS is a marketing tool.

Whether or not you like that ruling is entirely up to you, I'm just answering your question. :)
