Sharing content with myself and Cloud Service

Two points there MNBlockhead.

Firstly, I suspect that there are technical reasons that the cloud service is required for the access to purchased content - given that it is needed for realm creation, it would seem fairly likely other items like this are going to be tied in with the same issues.

Secondly, so far I have seen nothing that has been stated saying that LWD are planning on taking a cut of content available on the cloud, which would mean that their only revenue stream from it will be the subscription. Personally, I'd rather pay a small subscription fee than have inflated prices on the content being sold.

Cloud service is not needed for realm creation. An Internet connection is required, but you don't need to be paying for the ongoing service.

Not saying something doesn't mean they're not going to do it. I've always assumed they would take a cut of the sale price, just like every other service I know of that sells things for you online. At the very least they'd need to take enough to cover credit card fees, but I'd expect them to want to keep a reasonable amount more. 30% seems typical.

Offer a discount for subscribers and provide potential content consumers with choice. There are situations where I would happily pay higher prices for content on an ad hoc, item-by-item basis, rather than pay for an entire subscription. Overall, for me, this discussion is more academic than practical. I'll likely buy the subscription. If I get one good adventure that I can integrate in my campaign and save a few hours of data entry it would have easily paid for itself.

There's no way on this earth that LWD wouldn't take a share of marketplace sales. I would, you would, ANYONE would.

If I create a module for PF and offer it up for sale on the Marketplace, say, $5.00. I fully expect LWD to take a buck out of that sale.

The more money LWD makes off RW, the more they can improve it, via reinvestment in the project/company.

RW has the potential of COMPLETELY changing the way we play RPGs. Used to be paper only. Then the age of PCs came around, then you had some GMs (like me) using an Apple IIe to prep for games. Then came Laptops, Publishers started selling PDF's (White Wolf lead that particular trend) and you had some PDF's and various options like Word, Access, Excel, etc... Things got quicker, and better. And in DnD, you had Core Rules CD Rom (GREAT software btw, I loved it). Then came Tablets and smartphones. PDF's became the norm. You no longer had to drive across town (or to another town entirely) to get a new book, that's what Drive-thru RPG was for. Now people have Character Sheets and material in their back pocket, or in their backpacks in the form of a slick looking tablet. We also have VTT's and VoIP options like skype or video chat like G+ hangouts for gaming.

Now, Realm Works comes along, and adds ANOTHER form of publication possibilities. Realms for modules, Plug-ins for Rule Books, limitless possibilities for the table. With a second monitor, or even a slick plug-in for hangouts you can run games in 1/5 the time it used to take, have the rules at hand WITH ONE CLICK of a hyperlink (forgot what Channel Positive Energy does? Click the link!). Realm Works could become THE new way to run and play games in 5 years. DriveTruRPG could sell Realms as purchase options, buy a package of PDF+Realm, or PoD+PDF+Realm. Now you're covered across the board.

Seriously, if LWD doesn't take a cut from the marketplace, they're shooting themselves in the foot.
