I'd lie to know which and how often my players log in to my realm. Now the PE is out I'd like to be able to see how it is being used by my players.
 
If I were a player, I'm not sure that I would welcome such an intimate level of surveillance by my GM. I'd hope this would be an opt-in/out option for players if it were implemented.
 
Hummm.. perhaps the less Big-brother-esk version would be something simple, a counter to show how many "hits or views" since last update or a total for realm? (like ebay does)

Then you would know whether your hard work is being utilized, without asking "bob" how come he hasn't logged in to the realm. :)
 
Maybe just ask the players if they are using it. . ?

Seriously, Sometimes the simplest things are solved simply... K.I.S.S. has always worked....
Acenoid is correct, if your trying to determine how much "traffic" your realm was receiving, it isn't like a web page where you don't know who you have given permission access to or how to contact them. You have to invite them.:cool:

What happens when you have "nice" players that don't want to hurt a DM's feelings by saying they never visited the realm. So they say "sure" I am using RW:PE even though they are not.

I too I am on board with a basic counter or something saying people are visiting the RW:PE realm. I know I can't force players to view it or use it but it would still be nice to know if they are.

I know they are using my HL packages as I get bug reports for their characters. But I have not heard one peep from my players sense day one of RW:PE. I am pretty sure one of the five is using it. It would be nice to know for sure. :(
 
Just take information for grants in the next session. You could place written communication into rw and then ask in the ģame what they make of it. Though I'm not a friend of such enforcement ...
 
"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." Likewise, you can provide the information to the players, but you can't make them read it.

Even if you could track visits... you would have no idea whether such visits were only being done because you keep asking/nagging about it.

At some point, you have to let go and let them use or not use what is provided. Now, if you've been clear that there is material there that may help them.. you don't need to make adventures easier because they haven't read the warnings you provided. Just don't make them harder to *force* the players to read.

Other than that. I'd go with asking "Are you finding it useful?" occasionally.
 
Lying? Such a harsh word. More like not wanting to hurt feelings so telling you what you want to hear. Which...becomes a lie. But not on purpose. But it's not malicious. It's your fault. You forced the issue. You made them lie. You monster.

Some people will find PE addictive while others will avoid it as a tedious exercise. RW is a great tool but we need to recognize if it stops being a useful tool and starts inhibiting or even obstructing dialogue.

A major motivator for some players may be the pre-game recap where they snuggle up with a cup of hot chocolate and get read a story from the GM's notes and gloat over the havoc they wrought on the goblin nation last session. This frames the session and helps the players understand the focus/spin/direction/important aspects the GM is guiding them toward.

Correct. Most players have enough sense to know the "time and effort" a DM puts in. So they will say they are using it even when not.

I gave up long ago with any ideas of "punishment" for not using the material I provide. I just create allot less material unless I specifically need it. As RW helps me keep my games more organized I will keep using it. Just still would like to know if "any" player is really using it. Yea I could ask questions but I feel like I am "testing" my players then and they will pick up on that.

That is a good point actually. I actually stopped doing recaps of games unless we had a month break or something. Maybe I should give it another go using RW and its "what was revealed" last session gizmo...
