Just downloaded the 5.3 hero lab

I started the program tonight and it said there was a 5.3 version. I let it update and afterwards I got this error:

The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

The following errors occurred:

I just found the reason. Well sort of. Looks like somehow classes in d20 need a panellink="" element now. Which is missing for some of the classes and with the new update this is an issue.

The fix is pretty much what you linked to Sendric. Find these Class Things and a do a "Test Now" and HL editor fixes the issue. After that you may need to push out a new version to everyone so that everyone is fixed and working with HL v5.3....
 
hmmm, 5.3 i thought was for their ipad improvements... i wonder what changed. I thought the ipad improvements was only for pathfinder?

I guess we should get a list of the classes?

I did Test Now on all of these, and now the problem is gone. I will add that the last one I did (Unseen Seer) popped up with an error afterward about nonexistent bootstraps. Re-loading the code (CTL-R) or re-loading HL will resolve this if you get it.

The patch release is up. Nothing new. All this does is fix the problems caused by this panellink issue.
 
What about our own custom classes, will we have to do something with our own files?

"Maybe" sorry can't be more sure as it didn't affect every class in d20. The fix is pretty easy. Open the editor and go to the "Class->Class" tab and click on your Class and then "Test Now!" and you will be prompted to "save" (if the class has this bug) so click yes. It seems the editor fixes the issue by doing this. Once you do that for each class they are then fixed.
 
Yeah, I know, I was just curious what the changes were? I have a bunch of custom classes, and was thinking of writing a regex for my files, but yeah, maybe ill just do them through the editor.

Its the Panellink="" element and the issue is it needs to set a unique value that changes. Don't think you can easily do that in a regex...

The changes for the new release are that I went through and did the work of running "Test Now" on all the classes that were showing a problem. That's it. It won't resolve any of your own classes that display the problem.

When I've seen that before it was because the program was trying to load two overlapping custom .user files.
