d20pfsrd Data Sets - Powered by Hero Lab....

Does this mean the items are no longer in the Bestiary pack?
To get them, we have to install the Player pack?
Sorry that is just bad wording on my part. It means I found lots of magic items from the APs that where not in the player pack and duplicated them over to the player pack. At this point I am 99% sure the two packages are exactly the same.

The CB contains everything the player pack does and more. So no reason to install both.

will downloading the update cause any conflict with the Midgard Bestiary date set? Thanks
Downloading which update? I assume the Community Bestiary. Honestly I don't know as that took me by surprise and I have not purchased it for testing.

My assumption is if the Midgard stuff was held to standards and was added using a special two digit Unique Key then it will NOT clash with our stuff. But with the cost of that data set and the fact I will never ever use it its hard to justify buying it just so I can test community stuff. :(

If it does A) Please report that here and I can fix it. B) you can roll backwards if you need. You simply uninstall the current CB version. Then follow THIS link to where all the versions are installed. Download the version you want and install away!

What would be fairly cool is if a user could come up with a search function for the Stock Portfolio section. :)

As of today, there's no apparent conflict. FYI, KP was the Unique Key used.

- Apple MacBook Pro
- Mac OS 10.8.3

Any thoughts as to how I can fix this?

How you can fix it? Aside from reporting it, unless you're the datafile author no. These errors are reporting a field that exceeds the maximum length allowed, probably name fields if I am not mistaken. Whoever authored the file will need to shorten them enough to clear that error.

Sigh that is my bad. The windows editor lets a invalid character to be copied from a PDF into the desc text of a Thing. This character causes no issues for windows users but it does on a Mac.

It's my bad as I must have forgotten to run my fix script that removes those invalid characters before I created the data set. :(

As soon as I can I will get a new version out today.

Thanks for posting that as I encountered that as well.

Please note that in an upcoming release I am thinking to stop including the .stock files in the Community Bestiary actually. One the space requirement keeps growing meaning it takes more space for me to store on the servers, more download bandwidth, and longer wait time to update the Community Bestiary. Two it means I have TWO sets of monster files I have to maintain and support. Not including double the work for the Editors.

On top of all that I am not sure how helpful the .stock files are. The feedback I get is that the .zip files that are sorted by Chapters, events, and encounters is easier for a GM to use than trying to open and find a monster buried in one of the .stock files.

Another issue is I am seeing GMs/players loading the CB on the iPad and the iPad can't deal with the .stock files. So now its just a HUGE amount of space being stored and downloaded on the iPad that gives NO benefit at all.

So for all the above reasons I am thinking of removing the .stock files and going with just zip files on d20pfsrd. This way it provides a single location to get the monster/.por files instead of two and you download only what you need/want.

So obviously I am wanting feedback good bad or Shadow your Crazy! :D

Definitely remove the stock files.
I much prefer the singular portfolios.

On a side note it makes my editing life so much easier dealing with one type of file.

To be honest I have not seen any of the .por files as of yet. All my .por files are the ones I have created. If you are talking about the ones in the drop down menus for races and or classes... then yes I have seen those and would rather have the .stock files as that is where I am finding the creatures I need from the community bestiary. ESPECIALLY the creatures from the Adventure Paths.

So I guess what I am saying is that please do not remove the .stock files as for me they are VERY useful.
