Greets all, Im new here so hence i have N00B questions to hit ya all with.
Im working on a base definition file for Mordhiem, and im in the initial setup process.

Ive defined in the group tab my basics, Stats for the def file, weapon groups to be selectable, a type group and a sort for it, and now that its time to creat the dammed ENTITY group I wish to add UNITS, and ITEMS as tag in that group.

"for the 'ENTITY' group, the tags ITEM and UNIT must be defined"

After much hair pulling i found quite simply that these are REQUIRED items and must be taged as 'item and unit' no caps, and must be present in that spelling otherwise the 'ENTITY' is invalidated. Thats for everyone losing thier minds over my N00b issue.

But now Ive lost that battle, I cant seem to get around, or discover which items are missing in my View roster option...

"One or more groups are undefined for view 'roster'"

Is there anyway to test which items are undefined, as after reviewing my entire def file, Ive not found the frikking error. any help ?

Well, my best advice would be to open up the def files for a game system that you know well...You play Warhammer or Confrontation or one of the games that currently have a file? Open it up and take a look...It's one of the best ways to figure out what you're missing...Heck I've writen three datafiles at this point and all of them started with me copying the def file of another system (at this point I'm stealing my own ) and changing the file to suit my new needs...that way you know the file works...

Hope this helps...

Try deleting the groups in the view one by one, then recompile the data
files after each one. When you stop getting the error, that was the group
that was incorrect.

You can use this strategy to narrow down a lot of bugs - comment out or
remove different things until you find the one causing the problem. (It
might be a good idea to make backups first, so you can go back to the
original version easily once you've found the problem.

Ya ive tryed that...It defintly works, but i broke out somthing I wrote back in University. I gave up on the in-program attempts, I setup a boolian search in the raw def file for stand alone unique ids without additional refernce. Found and fixed my issue... Ive moved on to data entry in the DATA file now at this point. man I hate raw data entry... 8(
Next big hurtle will be fiigureing out how to setup all the rules for the system... sigh... heres to waiting with fondness in our hearts for the finished manuals that we know are being produced.

thanks for the feedback folks.
