So it looks like they're moving to a web based version of Hero Lab.
Hopefully not exclusively web based. Our game tonight was at a home with no internet access. I know the cloud is all the rage these days, but sometimes a guy just needs local data.

I like how Realm Works defaults to local storage and lets you sync up to the cloud, instead of the other way around. Even if you never sync, your data will still be local.

Huh. That's good to know. I thought RW was exclusively cloud based and never had any interest in it for that reason.

I hear so many people say that about RW.

Here's another thing you probably dont know. Right now NO ONE is paying for the cloud subscription. They froze the clock a few years back.

It will however starting ticking again a bit after they launch the Content Market but as above. You can just use local if you are satisfied that your own backups are acceptable and reliable... which i'm not

I don't back up anything else to the cloud, and not only do local backups, I clone the hard drive I do the backup to to a second hard drive, and keep the two drives in separate rooms (with the laptops normally in a third).

Basically, RealmsWorks files wouldn't be any more vulnerable than, well, virtually everything else I own/keep digitally, so...

Nope. You need access to the cloud to create realms, but once they're created, syncing them to the cloud or not is your choice. The DB is local. You can work offline to your heart's content.

Oh, there is another caveat. For certain updates, you will have to sync your realms.

Is Hero Lab for Android still perhaps something that might happen in the future?

I just bought an Ipad for the one reason and one reason only.. Herolab, so if Android is coming soon I will be pissed... I would much rather have bought an Android tablet. (I hate Apple, and their smug holier than though adherents)
