How to change topics?

Sorry, newbie question.

If I created and assigned an item to Places->Location, but I want it to actually be Places->Region:Geographical, how do reassign it (other than deleting it and recreating it)? I tried a dozen different ways before I asked this question, but the answer has been elusive.

1. Make sure it is not in edit mode.
2. Click the hammer/wrench icon (top right of the form); select topic category/change topic to a different category.
3. Select the new category.
4. When it is complete, select Quick Edit Content and do a re-sequence and a synchronize.

Ahhh! I saw that, but I assumed it would move Location to a a different category, such as People.
