Hi,
I have Army Builder 3.1 with 40K v1.22 data file. I am trying to build a 400 pt combat patrol Eldar squad, but it says the validation is bad because I have "special characters" due to my exarchs. I believe Exarchs are not special characters, and have confirmed it with many forums out there. Is this a bug or something I can toggle? Thanks! |

have just checked this and there are a number of probs:
1) I can't create the error of an exarch generating the 'no special characters' error - what unit are you using to create it? 2) Do you mean phoenix lords instead?? If so then they are special characters as they are all named, also they are precluded from CP as they have a 2+ save and multiple wounds |

Hi Harkan,
I'm using a squad of striking scorpions, with an exarch (not pheonix lord). On the bottom left, it says "Validation: No special characters", and when I try to save or print, I get the error message "No special characters allowed in combat Patrol" or something like that. Oh wait, I figured out why it was like that. If you have "special characters" listed in the options list, then the validation seems to have problems with it, even if you DON'T include one in your army list. If you uncheck the "show special characters" in Rosters->Change Rules->Roster Options, then the validation error goes away. Is that supposed to be like that? I thought the validation should only care about what you put in the army list? Thank you! |

I've run into that before, too. I think it's just a shortcut to enforce that rule. Rather than have all the special characters ALSO check for Combat Patrol, it just ensures that Combat Patrol and Special Characters (the ruleset option) aren't on at the same time. It's a little confusing, but it accomplishes the same thing (almost) -- you can't possibly have any special characters in a CP list that passes validation.

basically osman is correct - that is a catch all in case one of the specials has been missed in the process of rigging a file for CP
