Hello,
Something that I have not heard a lick about is the ability of AB to export into XML format. Any suggestions on where to get a program to make use of these files? A
program so that maybe we could design a character sheet and export the xml directly into it?

Seems like a great idea and would like to try and take advantage of it, but again, have not heard a thing about it.

Thanks,
Paul

More recent releases of Internet Explorer and Netscape (much less in the
case of Netscape) read XML, which is little more than a cousin of HTML.

XML is way, way more than that. I haven't fully had a chance to figure out
all it can do, but I'll have to soon enough for job reasons.

Building an XML app that pulls in data from an exported AB XML file should
not be difficult, but I haven't seen anyone do it yet.

There's the xml -> html app included with the construction kit (at least, I
think it's still included) - that turns a saved XML file into an html
roster thing. That should have the necessary code to read everything in,
leaving you with just the task of doing something with it.

Many moons ago, I posted a question/suggestion about making army rosters
Palm-compatible, and someone mentioned that people were working on using the
XML output to port them over to the Palm. That was the last I heard of it.
If I had the time, I'd learn XML and do it myself, but you know how that
goes...

An example is forthcoming. A Windows CE roster viewer is going to be
released to a public Beta before the end of the month. This tool uses the
public XML file, the built-in DOM of the CE device, and a bunch of XSL code
to display the rosters in a highly usable fashion. I think this is going to
impress a lot of folks when they see it. :-)

Note! This tool will be for Windows CE devices only. A Palm version is a
separate animal for future consideration.

Thanks, Rob

The Construction Kit includes everything you need to read an AB XML file.
In includes a parser and appropriate API for extracting all the various
elements and attributes. There is also a sample program that converts and
XML file into an HTML file very similar to the one automatically generated
by AB. There is also a detailed DTD and all the tidbits you'd need. All
that's missing is the code to generate the custom roster - which is where
YOU get to take over. :-)

Thanks, Rob

I have a program that takes the XML file for Clanwar, and prints the unit
sheets in the format you see in the clanwar books - I got this off the net -
will have to find the url if anyone is interested...

I'm thinking about trying to design some XML converters myself, but time is
a problem for me - not enough hours in the day with work...

the url is www.flatlands.org - select clanwar from the list of games on the
left side column. The next page has a "tools/utilies" column - select "cwab
card maker" - it only takes about 30 seconds to download..
