There seem to have been some changes to UAC "under the covers." I was able to get another application in a similar state to run by shift-right-clicking on the program and choosing "run as Administrator." Does that work for you?

I'd test it myself, but my licenses are already both in use on my non-Win8 machine :-P

I've tried Hero Lab in both the developer preview and consumer preview, and it worked fine (at least, it licensed itself and could save / print). Can you give me more information about the problem? What happens when you try to activate your license? What folder did you install Hero Lab in?

Thanks.
