I've created a new special character for WFB, and am adding it via an
augmentation file.

I have defined it using a code starting with the race's letters (vc),
given it two magic items (which I defined in the augmentation file,
and listed as take:item-free in Local Attributes), and a mount (which
I list as an option, type incl; under the option, I have stat:Sv-1
and unit:xmnt@per=1; xmnt has the stats and neither the option nor
xmnt have any cost listed).

When I try to create an army list with the special character, I start
a new list, show special characters, then double click on the new one
(i.e. I don't choose anything else first), and I get a "Selected unit
requires a special item or constructed element that is already
allocated to another unit, so it cannot be added to the roster."

I've tried changing the names on everything a couple times to make
sure that I hadn't used a name something else had (although I'm
pretty sure that would give me an error when I was loading the files
[before I chose my race and started the army list] and not later). I
just can't seem to figure it out.

Debbie

Most likely, you have assigned an item to the character (via "take") that
the character isn't allowed to take. For example, if you have a hero and
try to given him a magic standard, AB will generate this message. You need
to make sure that the character is specified as having access to the
necessary item categories, which is done via the unit category and via the
"spec" attribute.

Thanks, Rob

Check the two items you created... what's in the 'number of times this
item can be taken' box (at the top-right)? If it's 0, that's probably
your problem. If not, post the files to the Vault and I'll take a look.
