When AB gets a new version; is there a place an author can go to see what has changed that they would need to update in their files?

The readme.txt file generally has the details you are after - it's in the directory you installed AB to.
 
There's a link to the readme.txt file automatically added to the Start menu when you install AB. You'll find it with the shortcut you use to launch AB.
