Where are all the races?

I noticed nobody else responded to you, but all I can say is that I have no problems with races at all in my copy of HL. Are you still having an issue with this?

First, thanks for helping.

I just purchased a new license for the authoring kit for Savage Worlds mainly. I downloaded a brand new copy of Hero Lab and went through the instructed activations. I am a first time user but I am pretty sure this went through just fine.

When I start up HeroLab and Select "Savage Worlds" and go to the character creation screen I can not select any race other than human. The Deluxe version of Savage Worlds (which this release is based on) has at-least 11 races. I am not seeing any of them or able to select them on the Race tab. Human starts preselected and I can't change it.

I also purchased the Savage Worlds companion data package with all three books. If I select the "Fantasy Companion" in the start up window I am able to create both Human and Saurian so only two races. The FC has at-least 7 races in it but it is only showing two. So something is messed up.

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

The races are turned off by default because they would otherwise conflict with all the updated and expanded races in the Fantasy Companion. You can enable them via the Configure Character form that appears when you create a new character (and via the Character menu). The options will appear in the list of at the right.

If you want to use the Fantasy Companion races (and all the other FC material), make sure you've purchased the add-on and then enable the "Fantasy Companion" option.

If you want to use the races from the core rulebook, scroll down to the Miscellaneous Options section and enable the "Show Races" option.

If you want this setting to become the norm so that it's always enabled whenever you create a new character, click the "Set Defaults" button when you activate the option.

Hope this helps!

Hope this helps!
Yes and thanks.

It is a strange setup but I imagine there was a reason for it. So are the new Deluxe edition races prevented from using material from the Fantasy Companion? Well, looking, I guess it is only one new race. Still that is unfortunate. But thanks again!

I've noticed that the Fantasy Companion doesn't have ALL of the Fantasy Companion stuff in it. Tons of the Power/Spells, Professional Edges and so on are all missing. But the magic items and the ability to generate custom magic items with a basic cost generator are there, which is very nice (I say basic because it doesn't handle cost reductions if you are doing any limitations to the items, but that's not that big of a deal as you at least get the base cost to work from.) I'm assuming the other Companions may be missing some stuff like that as well. It's a bit of a pain but you can always use the Editor to add those in.

What are you seeing in the book that's not in Hero Lab? All of the Powers and Edges are in there.

Actually I think the problem is that I'm working from some fairly original Fantasy Toolkit PDF files. I'd have to grab my physical copy of the Fantasy Companion to check that. So I'm probably looking at things like the powers of Anger/Peace and Bellow and such that I'm guessing were in the PDFs of the Toolkit that didn't make it to the Companion is all.

Thanks for the help. I'm new to hero labs and was quite perplexed on why I couldn't see all the races. Now I know... I should actually LOOK at the program. :p
