What constitutes a 'hardware change'?

My copy of Army Builder seems to have reverted to the unregistered
version. I haven't done anything to my system except for removing a
CD-ROM drive. Is that enough to screw up the system code?

Hailstop...removing a CD-ROM drive will definitely do it.

The drive you removed was likely where AB was looking for it's registration
key.

Are you using another CD-ROM drive? Or do you now have no CD drive at all?
If you have another drive, just reinstall from the new drive and all should
be well. If you no longer have no CD drive on your machine you will not be
able to use AB as it requires the CD key to launch the license version.

Good luck.

I actually don't have the CD-ROM version, but the downloadable
version. I tried reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Normally I'd just go
and do some license maintenance on the website, but I upgraded to XP
about four months ago, and I can't do that until August. Argh.

The system code used by AB is based on a number of factors that are tied to
the installation of the operating system. If you upgrade or re-install the
operating system, the system code will almost certainly change. You can
also trigger a change if you start using different user login accounts on
your system. The mechanism is NOT tied to the physical hardware on your
computer, so changing hardware should not impact anything (unless it
involves re-installing the operating system, such as replacing a hard drive).

We strive to be reasonable with folks when situations like this occur. Send
an email to support@wolflair.com with your license number and a brief
explanation of the problem. We should be able to get you rolling again
without having to wait another 2 months. :-)

Thanks, Rob
