OK--I'm working with the Inquisitor data files, and I'm getting a weird
validation error that I don't understand.

Here's the situation:

- Open Inquisitor file
- Add a character--say, for example, "Cardinal"
- click on the "Armour" child unit
- go to the Items Screen and add "Left Arm Armour" and "Right Arm Armour"
(location doesn't matter much, except for full body armour)
- on "left arm armour", select "power armour"; you should get the following
validation error message:"10.0 points allocated to units which do not belong
to valid composition groups".

It happens sporadically, and I don't understand why it happens. Any
thoughts? Not-quite-current version of Inquisitor file is available through
"updates" section of AB (but this problem has been happening consistently,
through the past several versions--I just haven't gotten around to fixing it
yet).

m.e.

Happily, this is an easy one (for me, at least). :-)

All points for items are assigned to the unit they are attached to. In this
case, they are assigned to the "Armour" unit. All unit points are expected
to be assigned to a composition group that EXISTS for the current roster.
In this case, the "Armour" unit belongs to the "Armour" composition group.
However, that composition group isn't included for the race, therefore any
points assigned to that composition group aren't reported anywhere in the
composition report. They have been spent within the roster, but AB doesn't
have any way to report them to the user, so they are flagged as
"unassigned" within the composition report and a validation error is
triggered so that the user doesn't assume the incomplete composition report
is correct.

There are two ways you can fix this. Option #1 is to assign all characters
the "mgnt" attribute so that they magnetize all child unit costs (i.e.
armour) into their own cost. Option #2 is to assign the "Armour" unit to
the "Character" composition group so the points get tallied correctly. This
will cause the "Armour" unit to be visible for user selection, so assigning
it the "hide" attribute will remove it from user selection and still allow
it to be attached as a child unit.

Hope this helps,
Rob
