Weapon Specialization?

Did this feat disappear with the update?

The older characters I had created still have access to this feat, but any new characters I create, it does not appear on the list (and yes, I choose weapon focus and use 4th level or higher fighters)...

It allows me to add the feat. you do have to chose a weapon for the weapon focus first though to meet the requirement.

I've done that. Like I said, this was not a problem with the older characters I've created BEFORE this last update. In fact, oddly, with those old characters the feat still appears within the list. But ANY new fighter of 4th level or higher I create/level up, after having chosen weapon focus for a specific weapon, weapon specialization isn't even listed as a feat I can choose (it's as if the feat doesn't even exist); It's simple not there (darkened out or otherwise)...

Not sure then, i created a new char, a 5th level fighter, and the feat was on the list. it doesnt display if you use the filter to see only available items, have you selected the filter to see all?

Yes I did. I tried both ways actually, and looked at both feats lists (the fighter bonus feat list and the regular feat list). The feat just is not listed at all... :(

I even downloaded and reinstalled the update to no effect...

Do you have any .user files in your \data\d20 folder as they can control showing/hiding feats. I would take a look for any .user files and maybe temporally copy them out of the d20 HL folder. Then restart HL and see if the same problem exists.

You can also do a install of the d20 data set to a new folder like d20_test to see if it appears in that folder also. So you can go to HeroLab\download\d20.hl and double click the file. HL will start and prompt you to import the data set. In the bottom left corner is a button to Change the folder. Click on it and change it to say d20_test. Then do the import. Once that is done HL should now have 2 different d20 games to pick from and one of them will have "d20_test" under its name. Load that game system and see if the feat is still missing.

If it's not missing in the d20_test data set then it is some type of .user file making an adjustment to your normal d20 data set.

Okay, this worked. HOWEVER, it is a completely new d20 folder, which means none of the updates I downloaded are in that file...

I never downloaded anything other than from the list of "Available Updates" within Hero Lab itself. And while I created a few (literally just a few) of my own customized user files, up until the last update (which updated the version of HL I was using) everything was in proper working order...

Also, why would I be able to see the feat with those older characters, and not ANY new ones?

well thats an odd one. i'm not sure what could be causing it. Weapon Specialization is a pretty standard feat.

Can you send me a char you made that should have it but doesnt and i'll load it into my system and see what it does.

I looked into this with the char Digi sent me. it seems that the Weapons Specialization feat is tied to the Complete Scoundrel book. once i selected Complete Scoundrel in the Config Hero the feat showed up. this might be a new error. can anyone else verify this as well? thx.

Replacements are performed well before sources are checked, so if there's a replacement copy of Weapon Specialization with the Complete Scoundrel source, then the new version of Weapon Specialization comes from Complete Scoundrel.

The feat which allows Swashbuckler levels to count towards Fighter level feat pre-reqs?

Also the version for ninja.

Ahh that could be. The issue then is that the overridden feat should not be marked to the Complete Scoundrel source.

Could have happened during the initial conversion I did as if the feat was in the Complete Scoundrel .user file I would have set it to that source. Will need to at least not source mark it and really should be moved out to a CORE replace file so we know not to do that again. :)
