Version 5.3 of the Pathfinder files are now available from Hero Lab's automatic updates mechanism. You'll need to update Hero Lab itself to version 3.7 before updating the Pathfinder files.

This update makes the Ultimate Magic files available. These are available for purchase through the License Menu...Purchase Data Package. This release contains chapters 1 (classes), 3 (feats), and 5 (spells). Chapters 2 and 4 will be added in future updates, and will be free updates for anyone who owns the Ultimate Magic package.

This update also adds content from Pathfinder #45, and has some bug fixes.

The 3.7 update of Hero Lab makes custom outputs available in Hero Lab - you can access this through the File menu...Save Custom Output. Information about how to set up a custom output design can be found in Hero Lab's manual - Help Menu...Help Topics...User Manual, then scroll down most of the way to the Custom Output link.

Here's the release notes for this update, copied from the FAQ:
New Releases!

  • Content from Ultimate Magic is now available in the new "Ultimate Magic" package!
Please note that not all Ultimate Magic content is available yet - new content from Chapter 2 (mastering magic) and chapter 4 (words of power) will be released in an update sometime in June. Anyone who purchases the Ultimate Magic package before then will receive this content as a free update.
  • Added player content from Pathfinder #45, Broken Moon!
Enhancements & Changes

  • Added custom output - you can now create your own customized character sheets for your hero, and generate them by selecting "Custom Output" from the "File" menu. See the "Custom Output" section of the Hero Lab manual for details.
  • You can now export all heroes in the portfolio to d20pro, and exporting a hero to d20pro now includes images for that hero.
  • Spell and spellbook sheets no longer appear in the list for characters without spells or spellbooks. Once a spellcasting class or a spellbook class is added to the current hero, they'll reappear in the list.
  • The hero name is now printed in the title of journal printouts.
Bug Fixes

  • The 0-level spells that are automatically added to a Wizard's spellbook no longer include spells from the Wizard's opposition schools. These spells can still be added manually, when your character learns them in some way.
  • The Druid's Desert Druid archetype was incorrectly modifying the text of Wild Empathy.
  • The Bard's Sandman archetype's Stealspell ability was using Wisdom, instead of Charisma, to calculate its DC.
  • The Bard's Sandman archetype's Master of Deception ability was showing a number of uses, but it should be a permanent ability.
  • The Bite, Breath Weapon, and Gore evolutions can now be taken additional times, limited by the number of times the Eidolon has selected the Head evolution.
  • The Oracle's Curse should get 1/2 your non-Oracle levels & HD as a bonus to its effective levels
  • The Undine race should get Cold Resistance 5 instead of Fire Resistance 5.
  • The Snake, Constrictor Animal Companion was missing its Grab special.
  • The Master Craftsman feat was missing its skill ranks requirement.
  • The Smite Abomination spell was listed at level 1, instead of level 5.
  • The Inquisitor's Judgement of Protecction was not correctly reporting its AC bonus vs. Critical Confirmations.
  • The Red Mantis Assassin's Sabre Fighting ability was not correctly being applied to magical versions of the Sawtooth Sabre.
Data File Authoring

  • Spells now have editor options for the description text and cost of their material components and focuses. Spells also have editor options for their Target, Effect and Area text.
  • If a class's custom ability lists are marked as being optional, this is now reflected in their list - "Add optional XXXXX" instead of "Add more XXXXX"
  • If any of a class's custom ability lists are marked as optional, and the number of abilities available to this list is large (> 10), the abilities are considered unlimited - they are not added to the class's summary of abilities by level (the star button at the top left), and do not show the number of abilities remaining in their list. This is used for the Monk's Vows and the Cleric's Variant Channeling abilities, allowing the user to choose as many or as few of those abilities as they wish, without seeing "Add more Monk Vows (99 left)!"
  • The way that custom abilities grant bonus spells has been revised - instead of adding a condition that sets the level the spell is gained at, the required level can now be set as one of the options for that spell (existing bonus spells that were set up with a condition will continue to function properly). The single list has been broken into two lists - for bonus spells known that are granted to a spontaneous caster (ex: bard or sorcerer), and the second to add bonus spells to the spellbook of a spellbook caster (ex: alchemist or wizard).
  • Archetypes now have the same bonus spell lists that Custom Abilities do.
  • Assigning the Hide.Spell tag to a spell will prevent it from showing up in lists - it will be as if the character did not know that spell. Note that this can only be used on spells added by Hero Lab, not on those spells that were manually added by the user.
  • The NoBonusSpl.? tags can now be assigned to an archetype, class, or custom ability. The tag values for this group are the numbers 1-20, and NoBonusSpl.NoSpells. If they are present, any bonus spells that become available at the designated level will not be gained. For example, the Oracle's Mystery of Battle grants the Fog Cloud spell as a bonus spell at level 4. If NoBonusSpl.4 is added to the Mystery of Battle custom ability, it will no longer grant Fog Cloud as a bonus spell. If you need to suppress many bonus spells, you can add as many NoBonusSpl tags as you like, or the NoBonusSpl.NoSpells tag will suppress all of them.
  • An Archetype can now specify which class specials it modifies without replacing. For example, when the Monk's Weapon Adept archetype moves Evasion from level 2 to level 9, or the many changes the Summoner's Broodmaster archetype applies. Anything selected as being modified will be highlighted as an error if another archetype modifies or replaces the same ability.
