M&M 3rd ed. Update Estimate?

I know a lot of stuff is going into the next 3E update, but a lot of use are starting to try and get projects ready for publication in January. Is there any news of a nice, juicy update for M&M 3E coming down the pike? Or is Lone Wolf waiting for the Hero's Handbook to be released and upgrading from the Beta to the Full version?

While I have no particular inside information, I note that Pathfinder, D&D4e, and WoD have all gotten updates this month, so I wouldn't be surprised if M&M's turn was to be coming up before too much longer.

Assuming Savage Worlds and Cortex don't have high-priority action items, that is. ;)

Wait, there are other RPGs in the world? I keep forgetting!!

:p

According to the last newsletter, looks like DCA is getting an update in December :) Any chance that someone could tell us what the differences between the Beta and Full versions will be?

My guess is that they are waiting to release the next update until the 3e core rulebook is released, which IIRC, is sometime later this month or early next month. Hopefully then they'll be able to take the 'beta' label off it.

I too am interested in this thread. I have been waiting to buy the software when M&M 3rd is done but I haven't seen anything posted with a definitive date. While I readily admit I have no idea what is included in the beta version, I have a hard time paying full price for a beta version of any software. I'm still excited about it but I guess I'll have to wait and see when it is finally finished.

I've been using the dataset with the DC Adventures rulebook. While I've found a few minor errors here and there, the dataset looks fairly complete to me. Keep in mind that LWD isn't 'done' with any dataset when it's released. They keep working on improving and extending it.

I have to generally agree; while there's a few bugs, the dataset is already fully functional.

I understand where you are coming from. I used to work in the software development field and I guess it just rubs me wrong to pay retail for a beta version of an application. Again, just my thoughts. I am looking forward to making the purchase though once it is actually finished.

{nods} I'm very much with you on that. Sadly, a number of gaming companies have taken advantage of high-speed internet to release Betas at retail prices, assuming that they'll fix problems in patches. ^_^ Not Lone Wolf, of course... more like Activision and the rest. Although it could be worse. I remember there was some dogfighting game a few years back where people who bought the retail box found it had an empty jewel case and a note apologizing, saying that they could download the game in a few months.

I guess the next question would be, what do you want out of it that the Beta doesn't have? Fixing the errata of course, but we have that with all of the other products. :) Colen's good at listening to suggestions. He has limited enough time that he can only follow a handful of the best ones, but he does listen.

I'm just grateful that Lone Wolf was allowed to release the beta dataset when they did, considering we might otherwise have had to wait for it to be released beside the 3E Hero's Handbook (Not the DCA version). So the 3E Dataset should be 'upgraded' from Beta once the Hero's Handbook is released (very soon).

I'm pretty sure the 'Beta' tag refers mainly to that issue more than anything else, right now. There are still some bugs to squish, yeah, but Lone Wolf is always chasing things like that. :)

So just consider it the 'Early' version if the world 'Beta' turns you off?

I find that really disgusting. Hopefully the company suffered greatly for such poor customer service. If that happened to me, I would return it to the store, file a complaint, and possibly pursue legal action.

Lone Wolf has been very good to its customer base in the time I've been using their products. Three cheers for a software company that cares for its customers well.

Hip,

Hip,

HOORAY!!!

So, with the end of December on the precipice, is there any word on the finalized M&M3e Update? Not trying to rush, just genuinely curious :)

Probably contingent on GR getting the errata and 3e out.

Just a guess.

Bingo. :)

Sorry for the lack of responses here - I've been head down getting Army Builder 3.3 finished. Now that it's out, I'm working on an M&M 3rd edition update that will include the errata from DCA, among other things. Barring circumstances beyond our control, we're planning to release it on Wednesday or so.

Merry holidays, all!

Permit me a small slip of decorum here...
