Truth Level Look

Last night, while running my game, I revealed a snippet that I had marked as untrue. The line and dotted line that indicates the truth level is very faint and was difficult to see last night. Even today, under brighter light, it's not easy to see. Can we get these lines darker so they are more noticeable for us, especially those of us with mature eyes and/or playing in dim rooms?

Thanks.

Are you using the desktop scaling feature in Windows? If you're having trouble seeing things in Realm Works, I recommend you check that out. Realm Works should behave reasonably well at both the standard 125% and 150% scaling factors. This should make the lines thicker and easier to see, and also make a lot of the UI text larger and easier to read as a bonus.

The current color of the truth level indicators is by design. They are not intended to be high-contrast. We want to avoid using high contrast, high saturation colors all over the UI to prevent a "christmas tree" effect. The key is to strike a balance between subtlety and usability. The added wrinkle here is that people have many different displays, different display configurations, and different levels of visual acuity. Making things brighter and bolder may make it usable for some, but overpowering for others.

At some point, we may allow users to customize the color (and perhaps even the dot pattern) to suit their needs, but that's a low priority at this point. Customization features like this take a lot of work compared to their overall benefit. If we had a larger team we'd have some more latitude to tackle side projects like this, but as it stands the team is generally working hard to deliver critical features that will be used by the majority of users.

I understand not wanting high-contrast and a "christmas tree" effect, it's just very faint to me, almost non-existing. I will check the scaling feature to see if that helps.

I like the idea of allowing the users to customize the color and the dot pattern. I hope that becomes a future feature.

Guys, just make this customizable. Almost all programs offer this :)

I'm currently happy the way it is, but usually I only use RW for campaign management and rule lookup....

As workaround you could add GM text "untrue" or / and write this in the text if the players should see this as well.

As I said, this is a possibility for the future but it is not a priority right now. We have a small team that has to carefully prioritize what we work on for maximum impact. Right now we're focusing on bringing Realm Works to a large new audience (Player Edition), as well as laying important foundation for two more key features (the Content Market and the web app).

I hope the key features don't mean the calendar system will be delayed for them.

As I understood it, getting the Player Edition out was the first priority. I don't recall Content Market and web app having equal priority to Player Edition. The calendar was a big selling point for many people and a frustration.

I don't want the discussion and discontent to flare up again, but I truly hope the calendar system does not continue to stay on the back burner so they can focus on Content Market and web app.

PE is first priority over the Content Market and web app. That's why the majority of what we're working on right now is PE or PE-related, and why we're releasing it first.

Calendars are also a much higher priority than the UI customizations we've been discussing in this thread.

Many of the backend systems to fully support Calendars are in place already. There's more work to do, but it's not going to be nearly the same level of effort as the Content Market and web app.

This means that Calendars are likely going to be worked on in parallel with the development of the Content Market and web app, rather than strictly in sequence.

YIPEE! I'm joining Dark Lord Galen in the happy dance. :D

What we focus on in parallel with the Content Market and Web UI will be drastically influenced by the upcoming survey that we outlined in the newsletter. Calendars will absolutely be in the survey, but that doesn't mean they will necessarily be done next. That depends on the actual voting results. So make sure to cast your vote by participating in the survey when it launches!

I think everyone knows my position on calendars.

I will lobby, and lobby hard to get people to flag it as top priority in the survey.

As usual, I expect monetisation of features to trump QoL (and veritably encourage it!), but I also know how useful a full-blown calendar system will be to many GMs.
