OK, that's enough. I've switched the group to "New members require
moderation"; what this means (assuming that I haven't mucked it up) is that
I'll need to approve posts by new members. As soon as you make one
"sensible" post, you'll then be unmoderated and be free to post how you
like. This may mean that your first post is delayed by a few hours if you
send it when I'm asleep / out fighting crime / whatever.

If anyone has any problems with this (either ethical objections or "You did
something and now I can't post to the group" style ones, feel free), please
email me at colen@wolflair.com (colen at wolflair dot com if yahoogroups
happens to munge the address somehow) and I'll see what I can do. I'll
leave it like this for a week or so and see what happens.

Sorry for the inconvenience, all. We now return you to your regularly
scheduled programming.

Right, but it had to join the group to actually those send messages. We had
a problem like this on the Army Builder mailing list, so we enlisted a few
volunteers to moderate new members and ensure they aren't sending us "hay
guys come look at my porno site" emails. It's worked fairly well, and as a
bonus also stopped people joining and immediately asking "wher can i get
teh crack for army builder plzkthx".

As soon as someone sends even one email that's vaguely related to the
subject at hand, they are revealed not to be an impostor, and can be
unmoderated.

Colen,

On the Clan War list, I also got a couple of regular readers to act as
moderators as well. You can restrict their priveledges to just approving
messages if you are worried about it. It makes your life easier, and really
helps if you are on vacation or otherwise out of touch for a day.
