Super-Speed glitch when in an Array

One of my fellow players came to me with a question. He has Super Speed in his Hyperspeed Array and wanted to add the Power Feat: Free Alternate Power.

The PF window will pop-up BUT it is missing the Alternate Power selection bar that you get when this is done OUTSIDE of an Array and thus, nothing to select from the drop-down.

I have tried putting this desired power: Dazzle in the Array, still not recognized by the drop-down. Put Dazzle outside the Array, still not recognized by the drop-down.

As I say, Free Alternate Power works perfectly if the Super Speed is outside an Array.

Thank you in advance. :)

You can't have an alternate power of an alternate power; since Super-Speed is in an array, it's effectively an alternate power. That's why you can't add a free alternate power to Super-Speed when it's in an array, unfortunately. :(

Yeah! Spread the word :)

I've actually done a little more research on this issue, and Super-Speed is an interesting case, because it's a bit of an exception. Normally, you can't take alternate powers of alternate powers, because it would rapidly start to make no sense; after all, you can only use one of the powers at once.

However (here's where it gets good), Super-Speed allows you to take one of a long list of effects (actually powers) that you can also use. For example, you can buy Air Control, or a ranged Damage power, and use them at the same time you're using Quickness and Speed. Effectively, when you buy Super Speed, you've bought a linked power, which includes 3 powers:

* Quickness
* Speed
* Array

The "free alternate power" for Super-Speed is actually the first power that goes in the array. It's not really an alternate power, it's just part of the array. So your fellow player is right - as long as he's taking Dazzle as a free alternate power (with a maximum cost of 2PP per rank of Super-Speed), he should be able to do it.

Does that make sense? Hero Lab is behaving incorrectly, but I'm not 100% sure of the consequences of making this change. I'll see if I can get this working for a future release, but it'll take some thought.
