Summon Monster/Nature's Ally Portfolios

I'm a new HL user and am playing a fifth level Wizard who's getting into Summoning. This sounds great but I'm not sure what it does, how to load it and how to use it... Can you tell me more or point me to a place that will get me up to speed?

I'll thank you in advance for I can only imagine this is a great help (in my mind's eye, at least, right now). :-)

Summon Monster 1 and 2 where in the CPP actually. I never had time to finish the other levels or the Summon Nature. If you don't mind I would like to add these to the Community Player Pack. That way it will get out to lots of people.

I believe you need to have the Bestiary pack to gain access to these files.

After you download the files, double clicking should open them in Hero Lab.

Once in HL you'll see a column on the right side with each creature. Clicking the bulls eye will select that creature as the current "character sheet."

This is a nice way to keep track of your summons (weapon damage, hp, spell effects) while playing.

These are "Stock" files and need to go into your Data Folder to use.

You can always find the "data" folder containing the user files by going to the Tools menu within Hero Lab and choosing Explore Folders->Program Data Folder. Once this new folder comes up you drop a copy of the .stock files into that directory.

Then to use them you go to "Portfolio->Import Stock Hero". This will bring up a list of all the stock files that are available for import.

Thank you

Thank you both, GnomeIllusionist and ShadowChemosh!

I will buy the Bestiary pack and follow your instructions.

Another quick question: I have Hero Lab on my iPad. Will these work there as well?

Lee

They will. It's the exact reason I made them. :)
Yes and no. You would have to already imported the Summon Monster into your character before uploading to the iPad. The iPad can not deal with the stock files nor can it import from a stock file during the game.

So what you could do is put the most common summon beast into your .por file so that you can switch to it during the game on the iPad.

I've set these up to act as their own portfolios. No need to import them into your character portfolio.

Just open the portfolio, select the beast from the top right "switch hero" button, and play away.

Just switch between portfolios during play and any information (damage, abilities used) should auto save when backed to the main select screen.

I converted them all to .stock files so that I can find them more easily and summon just the one that I need.

I'm sort of new at this part, but how do import the summoned monsters into your character? Are you talking about importing it into an existing character (so it becomes a part of that character?) Do you just treat it as its own character and import that .por file?

I've seen a couple of things that might need to be changed.
1) the summoned monsters come with the celestial attribute, and smithe evil, but if you have an evil character they should have the fiendish attribute and smithe good instead. Minor issue but some kind of flag like the one for Augmented Summoning would be great.

2) if I am not mistaken, summoned creatures cannot summon other creatures. The Methit, for example, are still displayed with this special ability, that should be removed.

Again, thanks a lot for the files. They are of great help.
