[Starfinder] How do I add fame and reputation for my non-starting faction?

I have tried selecting an alternate faction and I have tried selecting equipping an alternate champion boon. Neither seem to have an effect and I always end up adding reputation with my starting faction.
 
If you are looking to add the additional reputation sometimes rewarded with a specific scenario, I have found this to be a two-step process. I first award fame, reputation, credits with my slotted faction and make sure that is credited fully, then I edit that journal and change the faction and add only reputation (and maybe additional credits from other sources). It will initially look like it is not crediting the specific faction but once I go all the way through it shows up correctly.
 
First, on the Character/Profile tab, have you added the new faction? You won't be able to record fame for something until there's a place in HL to store it.

The value you put in "Fame and reputation awarded" will be placed in the faction of the currently slotted champion boon.

The value you put in "Reputation Awarded" will be placed in the faction you set for "Faction for reputation awarded" - if the issue is that there's only one faction to select from in "Faction for reputation awarded", then add more factions on the Character/Profile tab.

So, for example, on one of my own characters, for Yesteryear's Truth, I entered "Wayfinders" in "Faction for reputation awarded", 1 in "XP amount", 2 in "Fame and reputation awarded", 588 in "Credits", and 1 in "Reputation awarded" (because of the scenario's faction tag)
 
There is a faction (sort of new?) that gets 1 rep from a faction that may not necessarily be slotted at the time. The character gets this even though he has not gotten the faction boon by spending the fame. (this is from the special ran at Paizocon and Gen Con)
 
Whenever I switched the dropdown to the faction I wanted, it would still end up going to whatever faction I was currently equipped with, which made it impossible to add faction to anything other than the currently equipped faction.

I've been in a few different adventures where you get additional faction gain even if you don't have that faction slotted. Faction gain comes from two primary sources (as I've seen):

Faction Gain from Fame (based on your currently slotted Champion Boon)
Faction Gain from explicit instructions (no Champion Boon required)

I can see if I can find the ones that had explicit instructions. But I know that's how we've been running it officially and I know that question was run up the chain via the various Venture people.

It might be a minor spoiler to explain what #1-99 has that would require a special faction entry.

The ability to enter custom factions is needed. Origins 2018 introduced at least one, called Manifold Host, and there is no way to track Reputation earned with it at this time.
 
@Mathias there are several scenarios where you can earn rep with multiple factions.

if you download the guild guide, it has the new Second Seekers (Jadnura) faction.

Maybe this should be moved to the HLO Starfinder forum.
