SRD Files

Just a quick question, when I install HL, I dont seem to have any SRD files. This has made it very difficult to create new files, i.e. .dat files.

In looking st other people who have HL it seems that they have SRD fils that are loaded, mine doesnt. Any idea how to get them loaded so I could use them?

Thanks.

In the "Select a Game" dialog when HL starts, does d20 have a check to the right of it? If so, you should have those files properly downloaded and updated.

No, files are all up to date. I have un-installed and install several times now and no change, the SRD files just arent there. I am using a Vista machine, so dont know if that matters at all. also when I do an un-install, it doesnt remove everything, when i reinstall after it still has some of the files that i have created and compilied into it. is odd.

Here's how the d20 files are organized on my computer:
c:HeroLab/data/d20: quite a lot of bitmaps, a few .stock collections of stock portfolios, the .pkg and .hlz files for d20, and a few other things. This is also the directory for user-created .dat files.
c:HeroLab/data/d20/authoring: images and html files for the editor manual
c:HeroLab/data/d20/manual: images for the d20 manual
c:HeroLab/data/d20/source: copies of most of the .dat files that go into making the d20 system, available as user references.

Yup, thats the way it was on my friends PC. I dont have the Source directory when I install my copy. Obviously the information is there or the product couldn't function. is very odd.

This was an omission in the last couple of releases, and should be corrected in the latest one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I have re-installed the system from both the website and a CD but don't seem to have it yet. I was able to copy the files from a friends machine and can view some of them. The .dat files for the prestige classes won't open for me.

It isnt a really issue in all, i just like making new items, feats, and pretige classesd with the program and am a bit limited by it. Maybe i'll bring the laptop to Gen Con this year and see what you can do with it after hours. I run the Gen Con ConGames as well so maybe we'll get to work together again. Thanks.

Make sure you're using the latest version of Hero Lab (v3.0) and download the latest d20 files from the updates mechanism (v2.9). That should add a "source" folder under the Herolab\data\d20\ folder that you can view the sources files in.

Hope this helps.

Yup, thanks that did the trick. Now it crashes the application when I use a scroll button. It keeps saying that it has placed the information about the eror in a file. but the location does not exist on my system, so no file.

d20 2.9 MIA

I am probably missing something obvious, but I cannot find the 2.9 version of the d20 file. I tried automatically updating, and it always says 2.8 during the import process, even though the initial screen says 2.9 is available. I also went to the web site and can only find 2.8. Where is version 2.9 with the SRD files? Thanks.

If HL isn't telling you that V2.9 is available on the Select Game System form, click on the "Locate File" button on that form. You should see the V2.9 files listed there for download.
