Spellcaster Guild

Inner Sea Magic has some guilds in it. In particular I want a character to have the 35 point Esoteric Training. How do I do this? I have all of the pathfinder data sets but I cannot find how to add such a guild let alone that perk.

Tools menu >> Editor

Once you have th editor open create a new data file for the guild you want to add. I think it would be added under the Memberships tab.

Oh, so I have to make one.

I was wondering, because I thought that maybe there would be a "Custom Guild" selection somewhere, kind of like making a custom magic item.

I will have to look through the options in the editor to see if the Esoteric Training already exists, or I will have to make that as well.

I did not find it. I think that it would be a Reputation Award. It is on page 22 of Inner Sea Magic. The 35-point fame perk of "Esoteric Training". It appears that it should be part of all of the guilds there, but I did not find it in the editor. I looked in Vanity/PR Award.

So it appears that perhaps it was either never entered in the first place (oops) or someone took it out later on, as maybe it was retracted from the game later.

Does your character have Inner Sea Magic checked as a source?

Does the character have one of the example Schools/ Guilds selected as a Faction to which s/he belongs?

Those awards are not for Reputation (a mechanic from the Ultimate Campaign book that uses some of the same framework as prestige). The Schools and Guilds from Inner Sea Magic are selected, if I recall correctly, as Factions, and you would then need to earn enough Fame with that Faction to gain the benefit.

I have it checked. It does not show up as an option for any of the factions in the Inner Sea Magic book. It is listed as a more generic option for spellcasting guilds in the book. Looking in the editor, Esoteric Training was not an option. It appears that it is not a part of the data set.

I just added several from the book just to see. The Oneponerian Flesh Forges and the White Grotto have it. Weird. I wonder why I did not see it before. Oh well, at least I can look at those two as an example and make my own guild.

Might be an oversight, you might want to submit a bug report ticket about it if you think the data was left out. Whoever coded the data might have not noticed or forgotten it.

I just tested this and it works fine:

I added Kintargo Opera House to a blank character. Looking slightly below the faction, I see that esoteric training is present, and greyed out. Then, once I added 40 points of Kintargo fame on the journal tab, and switched back to the background tab, Esoteric training had turned black.

Then, I added a level of bard and many levels of fighter to that character, selected bard for eclectic training, and looked at the bard tab, it says that I'm a CL 4 bard.

The Inner Sea Magic book adds a number of different TYPES of organizations, that do not all give the same benefits. There are schools, guilds, and monasteries, at least.. each slightly different. Some of the benefits are common to all organizations of the same type (such as all Schools, or all Monasteries) but not available to other types, in addition there being some benefits that are only available to a specific organization.

Does that help?

Yeah, I got it to work last night. I had originally selected a guild that did not have it. I have no idea why I did not see it in the editor, though. Well, it is a fact that I AM blind. :o

So the answer now is "make up a guild that has it" if I do not want to join one of those guilds (or they are not present in the setting).
