Shopping...

I've got a budget of 10 000 GP to outfit an L6 figher with. I made an L6 fighter straight up. I assigned a +1 sword and a masterwork suit of plate to the character, but these were not deducted from the 10 000 budget.

I selected a magical item, a ring of sustenance. The ring's cost came off the budget, but when I changed my mind and got rid off it, the cost was not refunded to the 10 000 GP budget. I then tried collecting a new magical item and then deleting it. My 10 000 budget went down and was not updated to reflect my new items.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I was hoping Hero Lab would be able to track all of my character shopping expenditures!

Make sure that you don't have the "Buy for Free?" box checked. Also when selling an item, you have to click on the 100% for the full cost back, or 50% for selling an item back to a vendor in game. Also there is a bug currently with selling stacks of items... See my other posts for that info.

An idea for Colen and Rob - how about a switch - one setting is that items cost 100% and sell for 100% (for character creation), and the other setting is what's going on now (which is for characters who have to buy things, and then drop or sell them). Basically, a switch or switches to select the default settings for buying things.

When you buy something, make sure that the price you want to pay is
specified in the "Cost" controls. For magic items, we don't know whether
you're buying the magic item, or whether you're picking it up from a
fallen foe, so we default to not charging you for it.

When you sell an item, you have the option to select how much to receive
for it. Again, we don't know whether you broke something and are
throwing it away, or whether you sold it for twice its price to a
merchant somewhere, so we default to not charging for it. You should be
able to specify the price you want to receive when you sell an item.

Hope this helps,

That's an interesting idea - we already have the concept of "creation"
vs "advancement" in the World of Darkness data files, since that game
system draws such a sharp line between the two phases. So it would
definitely be possible to do that for d20.

However, there's one thing I don't like about it - which is that
behaviour suddenly changes for no obvious reason to the user. Maybe we
should have two separate icons - one for deleting, one for selling? I'll
think about this some more and see what we can come up with.
