Rise of the Runelords NPC's and bestiary

Is there a data set with the NPC's and monsters from RotRL that doesn't need the community bestiary installed?

I ask because I ony have the core rulebook, RotRL Anniversary edition, APG, and Bestiary 1. I don't have Bestiaries 2 and 3, Ultimate Combat or Ultimate Magic - which the community pack requires - and, because I'm not going to have any need for them for a long time yet, I have no intention of buying them anytime in the next 12 months or so.

Thanks

You can try and open the .por files from the CB without the CB. Some will work like say goblins. But many won't work without the CB installed. It won't "break" HL to try to open a .por file so no harm in trying.

Yep, thanks ShadowChemosh. Did that and, you're right. Some worked - the standard monsters like goblins - but, RotRL specific ones came up with the error about required sources not available.

Has anyone made their own .por files for RotRL that will work without the CB that they'd like to share with me?

And why does the CB require all those extra books, anyway? Isn't that a bit unfair to people who only own the 'core set'? I realise it's a community made thing and they can do it however they want but, it would be nice if they could have one that everyone in the community can actually use, rather than a select few who have bought all the extras, don't you think?

Cheers

This is been asked before and it was a tough decision to make. Here is a link to Risners response to it and it sums it up pretty good.

Basically B1,B2,B3,UM & UC contain the building blocks to make monsters and NPCs. If we didn't use them the community would be required to rebuild all those building blocks. One it would be a huge waste of time for the community to do this and most editors don't have allot of spare time.

Plus by the time where done we would basically have B1,B2,B3,UM & UC coded then which puts us directly at odds of LW who is selling the stuff which in my opinion is a bad thing. On top of this the amount of "Things" I would have to support would increase 10 fold then also. As I am pretty much the soul support guy I really don't want 10,000 more "Things" to support and fix or can break with each update. :(

From my experience also we found that "most" DMs do have all those extra packages so its not a big deal for them. For the "Community Player Pack" we do enforce that it stays "Core" only license. As again experience shows that players do not buy the extra packages or the B1,B2,B3,B4 ones.
