Hiya all,

I am trying to get my Ab files to restrict items based on Comp group.

By that I mean if the roster is being created using the default
composition group then all items are available but if they then
select a different composition group at run time (using the Roster ->
Composition Rules Set menu option) then some of those items will no
longer be selectable.

I know I could do it with modes but I would like my user to be able
to switch between them whilst creating the roster.

Failing that, is there a way to force a mode when changing comp
groups?

Cheers, Chris.

I'm afraid such things are not possible. You can't change mode while
editing a roster, because if you did that then units in your roster might
become illegal, etc etc, it would all be a nightmare. The best you can do
is the same thing that (for example) the Warhammer 40,000 files do -
restrict a composition rule to only be valid when a specific mode is being
used.

What are you trying to model? Perhaps there might be a way of doing it that
achieves what you want in a slightly different way.

Unfortunately, the mode can never change once it is selected by the user at
roster creation. Lots of stuff within AB is configured based on the mode,
and that stuff cannot be dynamically changed after the fact. So the mode is
fixed.....

Sorry for the less-than-ideal news,
Rob

I am working on AB files for Warmachine. One of the mechanics for
that game is little damage grids. I have added these as items
switched on mode. That way, if someone isn't interested in printing
out the damage grids they can select a mode which hides them.
Ideally, I would love for this to be an option at any time rather
than when the roster is first created.

Not a huge problem I agree but it would be nice.

Cheers, Chris.

Why don't you create an option with the 'take:griditem' and give it to any
units you want to show the grid for. When they check the option, the grid
item will get added. Does that do what you need?
