I have updated the Army Builder Files for version 3.1 related to Reaper
Warlord thru 12-21-2006.

1. All datacards and equipment have been added

2. Mercenaries have been split up into their 4 new subfactions while
still maintaining the link to each other so you can build a group by
either the subfaction or the main faction.

But, the files are not perfect. Although all information is correct, I
need to do a bunch of work related to exceptions and overrides. But, this
is an area that I am still weak in AB. I am posting this email and
sending you the files in hopes that you might be able to help give me a
good tutorial related to doing exceptions and overrides. I can give a
couple of specific examples and if you could help explain those, then I
can take that info and reproduce it to do the rest like it.

1. The Overlords have a couple of new spells that anyone can use, but for
them it is considered level 2 while for everyone else it is level 3.

2. In a freelance group the overlord Onyx Chevalier is considered to be a
unique solo, so only one can be brought and it has to be a solo. In an
all Overlords group those same Chevaliers become non unique solos. So,
you can have more than one, but they still have to act as solos. In a new
Overlords sublist group called the Onyx Legion (that I have not added in
yet), those same Chevaliers are considered non unique models that can be
solos and/or elites at the same time.

Now there are not very many instances where a single model will have three
or more different profiles, but there a few, and there are actually lots
of instances of two profile models (being unique in one list and not in
another, or being an adept in one list and grunts in another). Any help
you can give in this area is greatly appreciated.

3. In the evil Mercenary faction called the Hanged Men, one model ("Jos
Gebblar") has a new special ability called Necromancer. The basic gist of
this special ability is that it allows him to obtain and use spells from
other evil factions, that would normally be faction specific, namely the
Necropolis.

4. Related to #2, The overlords have a couple of new equipment items that
are only useable by Overlord elites. I can limit a weapon to an elite
only no problem, but having troubles limiting it to Overlords and then how
do I make it work with the example Chevaliers above, where they can be
multiple things.

Thank you for your time.

Ok, did a few more updates to the file I list above..

Added the sublists for the Overlords. So, that I can actually have the place for someone to help me with #2 above.

  • In a freelance (or by default) a Onyx Chevalier should be considered a unique solo
  • In an all Overlords (main faction) group, the OC should be considered non-unique solos
  • In the Overlords: Onyx Legion sublist group, the OC should be considered non-unique and also can be played as either a solo or an elite.
  • In an Overlords: Followers sublist, the OC is not even allowed to be in it.

I am able to achieve D.) easy enogh by not including it in the race. But, I am still not sure how to change the unique vs non unique, and also solo vs solo and elite.

Any help is appreciated..

Ok, I think I figured out a work around way to make it work. Takes a little more effort, but is working so far. Basically, instead of trying to bang my head against the wall trying to add multiple scripts to change one unit or item, I have duplicated the unit, and just changed the unique ID name to a one off name (adding a B or C to the end) and then just changing the tags associated with each.

For example with the Chevalier example above,

  1. I created 2 duplicates (unique IDs ChevalierB and ChevalierC)
  2. With the original one, I set the race tags to freelance and set the unique and max count to 1, and left it as a type:solo
  3. with ChevalierB I set the race tags to Overlords and onyx legion and removed the unique and max count tags, but left it as type Solo
  4. with ChevalierC, I set the race tag to onyx legion and removed the unique and max count tags, and changed the type to Elite. So this actually creates a second Chevalier in the Onyx Legion option list, but that is ok for this particular case.

And for multiple damage track models, I only had to duplicate the main track, and just left all duplicates pointing to the same subset track information, as they are not affected.

I ended up doing a similar work around with the items and spells that have different behaviors for different circumstances. Mainly cause for the most part it is a faction and non faction affect, so its not too much of a headache. If it were a case of having 10 different possible behaviors this would have been a pain in the butt and not an acceptible solution.
But, instead of changing the race tags, which obviously spells didnt have, instead I changed the CHILDVIS boolean tags to only include the right rosters and/or character types. spell version A might have had the boolean (roster.overlords | roster.ol_onyx | roster.ol_khard) to handle all situations inside faction, while spell version B would get (!roster.overlords & !roster.ol_onyx & !roster.ol_khard) to handle all the other casters outside these rosters.
I am going to continue to add a few more things and then will upload an update to the file above. I wil post again when a new version is up.

Ok, I have updated the files thru 12-24-2006 in terms of a few new data cards have been added.

I also added all currently listed sublists (crusader, necropolis, nefsokar, reven, overlords), and for the most part everything works, a few things that need fixing here and there for each.

I still need help with a few areas.

Beginning to wonder if help is available at all.

Glad to see someone is taking the riegns on this. Many thanks for the time and effort you have put into it. I wish I could lend you assistance but sadly, I know diddly about authoring the data files. I wouldn't give up hope yet. Russel will undoubtobly pop in again to give you some help. I also seem to recall there was a section you could post in regarding specific authoring questions.

Once again, thanks for your hard work on the files, it does not go unappreciated.

Added another update. Basically just added the new data cards.

Same link at the top to get to the download.

Here is a question...
How do I get my updates included into AB? That is, when I start up AB, I get a message saying there are updates available... and then I go and click and download updates for all these datafiles. How can I get my update included into that?

To get the updates into AB, I need to upload them and update the mechanism.

When you're ready, send me the update file and I'll put them up.

Based on your response on the other question of having the SAs in three different places, I need to go in and add the ones I put in to the 2nd and 3rd spots. I will let you know as soon as I get them in there.

Thanks.
