Question: can squads 'inherit' from another once added?

ko, background first off: IG advisors such as priests, are attached to certain game units. When using doctrines the doctrine is applied to the whole game squad including advisors.

Before switching to squads mechanism this was easy enough to apply, i.e. using a mirrored auto link that mirrored to the parent option. However with squads I cant seem to get this to work, prob as there is no parent??

Is there any way to resolve this, i.e. drag a priest into a command squad with doctrines selected and the priest picks up the options as well??

There is currently no way to solve this automatically. We didn't think of this situation when we setup the squads mechanism, since we assumed all the units within a squad were independent, except in terms of validation.

We already have something on the todo list that will allow this to be handled readily in the future (the equivalent of "global" tags but limited to "squad" scope). But that doesn't help you now.

I assume that the doctrines actually modify unit stats and other characteristics of the units. If not, then perhaps you can just leave the doctrines off of the advisors and add a note that they get the same behaviors from the unit they are associated with.

If the advisors must have the doctrines, the only thing you can really do right now is allow the advisors to select their doctrines via options, just like the unit their associated with. If the doctrines assign accrued tags, you can then write a simple squad rule to make sure that the doctrines are consistent among the units within the squad. This isn't exactly a "bad" solution, although I realize it's not nearly as good as automatically assigning the correct doctrine to the advisors.

Hope this helps,
Rob

I had a feeling that would be the answer :( is there a timeframe for the squad level tags - only reason am asking that is I want to convert the Chosen in the Chaos list to use squads to make them real flexible - the amount of options they have is scary so the number of rules to cover them would be more work than it would be a benefit, also the user would be presented with so many violations it would be overload.

Some of the doctrines for the IG is linked to equipment which is applied automatically so that is no biggie, the others are around organisation and troop availability so again no biggie as that impacts available units.

That leaves about 9 doctines that relate to stats etc, so for the mo' am planning to do it by accumulated tag per doctrine with a rule per doctrine as well

cheers

I've got them flagged as a priority item for V3.2. That means late this year, when we get V3.2 released. As an author, you'll see it first when V3.2 goes into Beta. But that won't be until the summer, at the earliest.
