Purpose of Campaign Theater

Hey, all - just a question, which may seem obvious to others but it escapes me at the moment.

What is the purpose of Campaign Theater? I mean, it’s clearly not an online VTT, so is it the newer version of Classic’s combat manager or whatever it was called?
 
That's basically it, yes. It's a little more integrated than Classic's was, because everyone sees it when a character's status is updated.
