Problem making Animal Companions/Familiars

Just downloaded the program and love it but I have one slight problem: I can't make any animal companions and I'm not sure why. Anyone have any idea? My main theory is I can't do it because I'm lacking the Bestiaries, but I'm holding out for the 3 pack. Data sets are Core, UM, UC, APG and the adventurer's armory... Any help would be appreciated.
 
Do you mean make new ones in the editor, or add animal companions to your characters?

All of B1's animal companions, plus the core rulebook ones, are available in the basic package, and the Race, Animal Companion tab exists in the editor for all users.
 
After clicking on the Add animal companion button the dashboard comes up and Animal Companion (Character's Name) shows up on it, I click over to it and click 'select race' and everything is greyed out as non selectable, with a line of red text reading 'Companion Type not allowed for rangers. Allowed for: Druids" This is for EVERY character I've tried it with, both PC and NPC.
 
Fixed it... apparently 'do not restrict companion race' was selected and it was causing the issue...

And now I'm going to go crawl in a hole and die...
