problem: Additional animal companion programming for herolab

Hello,

New poster, I hope I am in the right place and using the right format for my questions. Any help is greatly appreciated. "Me not do good XML." However, I am learning and want to build my ability.

I have a custom ability I am working on that gives a ranger variant a second
animal companion.

I know that packmaster druids do this as part of their archetype. so far I've tried:
1. recopying the animal companion evalscript. to the custom power No dice.
2. Adding the Hero MultiComp tag to the power. Still no dice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't seem to find the script on the packmaster that lets this happen.

Nick

I think you need to assign the Hero.MultiComp tag to the hero and possibly the cAnimClass Helper as well. Let me go over my notes.

I haven't looked at how this is done but the Beast Master archetype for the ranger does this. Have you looked at how that works?

On further review, I believe you should assign the Hero.MultiComp tag to the hero and the linked class, and the class must have a positive cAnimStart field value. The cAnimClass Helper doesn't need it.

Do this at First 10000

Blzbob, the archetypes have scripts that automatically forward the Hero.MultiComp tag where it needs to go. This fellow is trying to get the same effect by adding a custom class special, which is slightly different.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, the archetypes just do it, without anything but a bootstrap. I don't know how to program this into a special power. May be very difficult. . .

Did assigning the tag to the two places I recommended not work? I'm busy in the runup to the next release, but should be able to mess around with this more Monday.

I'm just not sure how to do that. I need some command lines and a little more help. I'm pretty basic here.
It's invisible in the architype- there's no evalfield or anything. I don't know where to begin, honestly.

First of all, thanks for the help, guys.

The beast master, like the pack master has a tag that called "MultiComp" that allows him multiple companions. There is no eval script or power selected that turns this on. What I need is a step by step set of instructions that will allow me to Give a ranger multicomp as the result of a custom ability. I've looked through the documentation and I've worked on it on my own, so I only asked for help after several hours of trying.

Thanks, Nick

Code:
perform hero.assign[Hero.MultiComp]

As Aaron said, the phase & priority to use is First/10000.
