I want to use the Character Traits Paizo has in the Second Darkness Pathfinder Companion and Elves of Golarion, and there are a couple that gives the same trait bonus. Per the Character Trait information that Paizo gives in the Second Darkness Pathfinder Companion, a trait bonus is not stackable with other trait bonuses.
Also per the Second Darkness Pathfinder Companion a PC cannot have the same category of traits, so I cannot have two Elf traits or two Combat traits.
For example if I take the Reactionary trait and the Warrior of Old trait (in Elves of Golarion, but inputted by me) which both give a +2 trait bonus to Initiative, I should only receive a total of +2 to my Initiative. HL is giving a +4 to Initiative. I noticed that HL gives an unnamed bonus to the Reactionary trait. This should be a named bonus much like Sacred, Luck, or Alchemical bonuses. Many traits grant a new type of bonus: a “trait” bonus. Trait bonuses do not stack—they’re intended to give you a slight edge over the non-PCs of the world, not a secret backdoor way to focus all your traits on one type of bonus to gain an unseemly advantage over the rules.
Also per the Second Darkness Pathfinder Companion a PC cannot have the same category of traits, so I cannot have two Elf traits or two Combat traits.
When selecting traits, you may not select more than one from the same list of traits.
