New RW Version busted?

Pollution

Well-known member
Updated this morning and got an AWESOME error.

"Database integrity issue. Invalid LifeLog entries found."

Anyone else having this issue before I contact support?

FYI, Uninstalling and then reinstalling did not solve the issue.

I did not reboot in between, I'll try that next.

And no, that didn't do it either.

Still getting the same error on start.

My Process:

Got up this morning, opened RW to finish up a White Wolf SAS I've been working on for my Hunter game.
Saw there was a new update.
Downloaded update.
Closed RW.
Ran update install.
RW crashes on start (before Login) with the invalid LifeLog entries error.
Uninstalled.
Reinstalled.
Same Crash before login.
Uninstalled.
Reboot.
Reinstalled.
Same issue.

Each uninstall was FULL uninstall via control panel (i.e. Do you want to delete all downloaded files/data/whatever?" YES) So there SHOULD be no residual data anywhere for it to be crashing on. Didn't check registry, but I usually ignore my registry if I don't HAVE to go into it.

I think it's pooched folks.

IIRC, uninstalling doesn't delete the local database regardless of how you answer the questions. If Realm Works continues to remember your account name then your local info wasn't deleted.

The safest action (especially if you have unsynced local changes) is to wait for tech support, but if you want to play with it I can give you some helpful info. The active local database, preferences, and index files are stored in the folder found here:

Code:
explorer "%appdata%\LWD Technology, Inc"

You could try renaming the Realm Works folder there (with RW closed) and see if everything works after downloading your data from the server.

You could also uninstall and go back a version and see if you regain access to everything. (I'm pretty lazy about deleting downloads; at present I have six RW installers in my DL folder.)

If you need it, backups of your database from the last 10 times you ran RW and some version changes are stored in your Documents folder, typically:
Code:
explorer "%UserProfile%\My Documents\Realm Works"

Good luck!

Edit: FWIW, I just installed 177 and had no problems opening realms or syncing. Now I have seven Realm Works installers. ;)

Damn.

I got the same error.

I'll report it.

EDIT TO ADD AGAIN **FIXED!**:

I just renamed my "%appdata%/LWD Technologies Inc/Realm Works" folder, re-ran RealmWorks and the program ran. Then I had to resync, but resyncing WORKED.

I can now get at my realm just fine, and RW tech support has a copy of the borked one.

That did it!

I was about to delete the master.realm on a hunch that it would fix itself if I did when support got with me.

I sent them a copy of it, and am waiting to hear back. In the meantime, renaming the folder fixed the launch. Currently resyncing my 4 realms now.

Thanks alot for that, I wanted to get some tags put in my custom games I'm doing as prep for the community sharing per the workshops at GenCon on Youtube.

So just adding I got the exact same issue. I moved the MASTER.REALM file out of the folder and RW loaded up. I then had RW download my main realm again from the cloud. All working again.

Good thing I had synced all my changes up last night before signing off. :)

:eek::confused:
ok with the rash of these and after doing ALOT of adding today, I am hesitant to sync till resolved now..... went to look for the "back up" button under manage (as it had been awhile since I did that... Isync so why back up right?? opppps)
but to my surprise... no button.. nada..
thought may be "old timers disease " caught up with me...... but nope... the frequently asked questions on the web site says:
FA? said:
How do I make backups of my realm database?

You can backup your realm database by going to the "Manage" ribbon bar and selecting the “Backup” option. You will then be prompted to specify where to save a backup of your database. If you are using the Realm Works cloud server, all of your data is backed up to the cloud whenever you perform a sync, so the need to make separate backups of your data is obviated.
so.. I went into the reference manuals..... nope.... (at least according to adobe reader search) no back up of file...
So fellow web / thread crawlers... is there a simple way to back up non cloud? or should I dig through the file tree and gleen the "master realm" file from it?

** EDIT**
After further digging ... I went to the cover where the "sync realms are and under "TOOLS" there is the option for a local back up..... Senior moment averted.... (LDW might want to edit frequent questions on site concerning this) :)

We believe we have identified the source of this issue and are working to get a fix out before the weekend. It looks like about 50 users are impacted - based on the number of users with this particular combination of data on the server - which is why we missed this case. Stay tuned for a new release with the fix on Friday...

We moved it over the summer and flagged it in the release notes.

Full (and accurate) information about backup/restore will be readily found in the Getting Started chapter of the Quickstart Guide, so it's not like we're hiding the information from anyone. :)

I'll relay the info about needing to update the location in the FAQ, since that's now out-of-date.

Damn Rob
It's two AM go home already!!
Lol
Do u , Liz & David live there????
Seen A lot of EARLY morning posts lately From ya'll.
Thanks for the support & dedication
:) :)

They're on the West Coast so it's Midnightish, but still.

Oh, wait. I'm the guy who has been staying up all night and sleeping in the mornings. Maybe I shouldn't talk. :)

FAQ page is updated. Thanks for flagging that, Dark Lord Galen. And no, there isn't some Lone Wolf commune somewhere. We all telecommute and work different hours, Rob especially.

And I have the good/bad habit of checking the forums shortly before I head to sleep, and then getting drawn in by all the interesting things you all post. :)

The entire company telecommutes. So our daily commute to and from work varies between 15 feet and 50 feet. Of course, it might be double that when a sidetrip to the kitchen for a glass of water or a cup of coffee complicates things. :)

The big drawback with telecommuting is that it's REALLY HARD - for me, nigh impossible - to actually "leave" work, since it's calling out from just a few feet away. This is compounded by the fact that we've had some major setbacks and are way behind. The end result is that a light week of work is typically 80 hours for me. The heavy weeks are 100+ hours.

Please note that I'm not proud of working insane hours. It's simply been a necessity with everything we're trying to accomplish and the very limited resources we have to work with. My sincere hope is that we grow Realm Works enough to hire a few more people and then I can actually work a "normal" work week of 50-60 hours. That's normal here in Silicon Valley, and it's a veritable vacation compared to what I've been doing for the past many years.

Along with the telecommuting, we also have a lot of flexibility on the hours we work. I'm a nightowl, while David is a morning person, and Liz has more of a normal schedule. So you'll frequently see me posting in the wee hours while David and Liz are sleeping, then they'll post in the mornings while I'm sleeping. We make sure we've got a good 6+ hours of overlap everyday, so communication remains good even though we work some very different hours.

Hope that helps to explain things! :)

As someone who has telecomuted to work in the past, allow me to offer some advice.

Don't work at 2am.

Seriously dude, you're gonna kill yerself. haha.

Thanks for looking out for us on this issue. This is the BEST program for DMs ever made, no joke. As a longtime user of Grapevine when running LARPS this is an amazing and powerful tool. If I had one complaint about it, it's that the software is almost too powerful. I find myself going back over stuff I've put in already to add tags I forgot, or rearranging structures and relationships, or adding hyperlinks to the PRD for spells in my text, or.....

Yeah, as an unemployed IT professional, you've gone and turned my bi-weekly hobby into a full time job.

Thanks for that! :D

seriously though, great work on the bug tracking. Fully satisfied customer here.

Now, get the market up so I can share the multiple projects I've put into RW. I can't wait for someone else to grab my stuff so that I feel like I've been productive during this period of unemployment. lol

I telecommute for a software company too.

Luckily, I am just a worker drone with regular office hours, and there are people in other time zones to pick up where I leave off, so I don't have that temptation to stick around longer than I should.

I could never telecommute an open-ended job like that, I'd vary wildly between doing nothing for a month and spending 29 hours a day on the machine...

Geez I car commute for over an hour, sometimes 2, to work an back every day. All this talk of minutes is making me jelious.
