New Product Identity in Editor

I saw this info on the forums somewhere not long ago but just spent 45 minutes failing to find it again...

How do I create a new Product Identity for my custom homebrew stuff, and how do I share that with my players - does it transfer with the .user files?

Thanks!

Before you spend time marking all of your content, remember that "Product Identity" does not mean "created by".

Product Identity has a specific meaning in terms of the OGL license. Read the credits page of a Paizo book, like the core rulebook, and at the bottom of that page, there's a "Product Identity" section that identifies which items should be marked as product identity in that particular book. Unless you're publishing your content, that's not something you'll need to worry about.

Is the "New Tag" option not working when you select which "Product Identity" to apply to the things you're creating?

Well, it may be published, someday.

I actually created a product identity several weeks ago, and I created a great deal of custom content. As I did, I ticked the checkbox under 'Product identity' and 'Source' for the content.

It all works great on my computer, but when I moved the user files to my laptop, I'm getting errors. Apparently the product identity isn't in the files or isn't being recognized, or?? Maybe I missed a file, or maybe it's not in a .user file?

So, I need to be reminded how I created the product identity (I looked for a long time - I know it's in the forum, but can't find it - sorry), then maybe I can figure out why things aren't working on my laptop.

Thanks!

The first item in the list of product identities to choose from is "New Tag" - choosing that will prompt you to add the details of the new item you want to add to the list.

If you get an error message in Hero Lab, you can right-click it and copy it, and then paste it here.

D'OH. Went back out and found it right after my last post. Once I recreated the product id and source on the laptop everything was fine.

So, if I send the .user files to my players, they'll have to do the same? Get into the editor and create the product ID and source?

Thanks again

I don't know how the product identity could have been lost - when that sort of thing happens to me, it's that I forgot to save after a set of changes. There's certainly nothing in the program that would deliberately strip it.
