Mythis Tier adding levels to animal companion

Adding a mythic tier to a 7th level ranger with the Boon Companion feat has caused the effective level of that ranger's animal companion to increase by one. The mythic level added if the ranger doesn't have Boon Companion causes no change in the animal companion's level. The additional animal companion level doesn't seem right.
