Use the local unit attribute xcmp, with the proper race qualifiers. So,
make the unit support, but have an xcmp attribute that makes it elite
when used with a specific race

xcmp:Elite-race:xx

Replace "Elite" and "xx" with the proper names, of course.

I've done that and it keeps giving me an "invalid field" error. Is
there any other way?

You're using the proper category name/abbreviation for "Elite", right?

I presume you're working on 40K, and if so, the answer is "Elit". That
information is under view - definition info.

What exactly does the error say?
