Multiclassing Paladin / Sorcerer

Someone please explain to me how a paladin 5 / sorcerer 3 has no access to 2nd level paladin spells. From my calculations, the CL is 5: 2 from the paladin and 3 from the sorcerer. HL is not allowing me access to 2nd level paladin spells.

I guess I should clarify, is multiclassing broken in Hero Lab?

So does anybody know if this is broken? Other sites elude to this but don't come out and say it. I just need to know so I can either report it or figure out what I am doing wrong.

Caster levels don't stack like that. He would be a CL 2 Paladin for paladin spells and CL 3 from sorcerer. If the sorcerer were to cast burning hands, it would do 3d4 not 5d4.

It's just like how channels from Paladin/Cleric don't stack. A basic rule is most class abilities do not benefit from other class levels.

"A spell’s power often depends on its caster level, which for most spellcasting characters is equal to her class level in the class she’s using to cast the spell."
