Monsters as Monsters not Playable Races

I've been trying to create some monsters using the HL Editor. I create it using the Race tab like it tells you to somewhere in this forum and it's pretty straightforward and the monsters look fine... until I come to use them in HL itself.

The monsters aren't races I want anyone to play. I want to use them like I would... say... an ankheg where I go to Import Stock Hero and select the monster from there. But what's happening is that HL is treating the monster like it's a race that can be played and so I have to go into the Background tab and click on Choose Race and get it from there.

I get the feeling I'm doing something wrong with the Race Type field in the Editor but I don't know what I should be selecting.

If anyone wants to have a look at the latest monster that's causing me strife, please feel free.

Thanks in advance :)

Towards the lower part of the editor, you have selectors for "Race Type" and "Size". Under the Race Type, select NPC Race. This will put it in the monster area. (Don't have HL in front of me so may be the wrong term.) This is the same area where you enter the CR of the monster.

I've made the monster I attached in the previous post an "NPC Race," saved it, pressed the "Test Now" button and have been told that I can now use it in HL but where is it supposed to appear? What list can I select it from? It's not appearing on the "Choose Race" list under "NPC Races" and it's not in the "Import Stock Hero" list.

One the Background tab, under race, type in the name of the monster you are creating. It should appear there under the last heading. (Don't remember if it is called NPC Races or not.)

You could also type in the name of the Source you tied it to and it would show you all of the races under that source.

Okee dokee. Thanks for your help so far, Umarian. The monster's there but it still wants me to create like a race. So it wants me to add a class in order to get hit points (even though I set the default hit points), alignment, deity  still

Did you set the default HD? I believe it is two fields above the default HPs. Halfway down on the right side of the screen is an option to pick "Default Alignment" also.

Might try going through the Help section of the editor as it gives an example of how to build a race.

You "could" bootstrap the diety to the race, but that is not a normal practice. Alignment, like I mentioned, can be set on the right column in the editor.
