I would like to use Herolab to make my own monsters, well, actually to convert historical/mythical beasts as monsters for a game.

Has anyone done this before?
 
You could do this, but Hero Lab isn't really intended to help you design monsters - for example, it won't help you select appropriate hit dice or challenge rating. Instead, it just takes what you input and formats it appropriately.

If you designed the monster first, you could definitely then enter it into Hero Lab to use in your game.
