Monk Weapon Damage Scaling

Is there a way to ensure a home brew Monk's weapon damage scales up with Monk damage per the 5e rules. I made a +1 returning shuriken for the Monk in my campaign, and I'm hoping it scales as his level increases. Is there a way this is normally done in the system?
