Mentor spirit after character creation in 4th ed

I am trying to find a way to add a mentor spirit to my mage in 4e and can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Once you've made your character magically active on the Basics tab, go to the Qualities tab and add the Mentor Spirit quality.

Then go to the Magic tab and choose a specific mentor spirit.

Oh, sorry, I don't normally look in post titles for information that's critical to the question, but wasn't in the body of the post - you're adding it in advancement mode.

Once you've added the quality, use the Unlock button on the Advances tab to return to character creation, choose a mentor spirit, and then re-lock the character on the Advances tab.

There may be changes that have ended up being made that will mean you need to use some of the character creation adjustments on the Personal tab's Permanent Adjustments table to let you return to advancement mode.
